Several of my friends and family are active supporters of Philabundance and the Food Bank of South Jersey.

When I was younger, my parents would take me with them to a soup kitchen especially around Thanksgiving. My mom and grandmom are great cooks so they were in the kitchen helping, my dad and I are the clean-up crew and grandpa walked around like he owned the place, lol. This went on for years until my grandparents started having trouble walking.

Last week, our elders called in a family meeting. We are making Halloween care packages for some people we know that are in need, filled with non-perishable goods (mac & cheese, soup, tuna, tapioca, crackers, beans, spam, corned beef, etc.).

The kids’ trick-or-treat bags are the full-size Halloween themed grocery bags filled with pudding, mac & cheese cups, ramen cups, soup cups, chicken (flat pack not can), PB & Cheese crackers and some candy, too.

We usually do this after Halloween (for Thanksgiving and Christmas) and the Goddess of the Canned (me) would help collect and deliver.

Anyway, thank you for creating this post, OP. It will help highlight and spread the ~~word~~ fact about food insecurity. There are a lot of people out there thinking about whether to buy their medicine or buy food.

So, if anyone wants to help, there are plenty of places in your area. Monetary donations are also welcome.

if there is an incident and your personal insurance is involved, you might be hit with higher premiums for years, and would have a case to have your employer to have the increase be reimbursed.

You are correct.

This is where a lengthy mediation comes in with both parties trying to avoid litigation. For companies, it’s almost always cheaper to settle (I speak from experience having sat at both sides of the table).

Most people don’t realize that a moving violation ticket can cost them approximately $45 or more a year for the next four years, depending on the infraction and/or state you live in.

I absolutely agree with you.

It’s a great idea, IMO. I have 3 in my emergency bag and rotate them accordingly. Depending on your taste buds and how hungry you are, the “meat loaf” and “roast beef” are good.

I usually just sautée some veggies to go with the MRE that I have to make. They came in handy during the winter. Never had chicken burrito; let us know if you like it.

Also, $5?! That’s dirt cheap! 👍

EDIT They’re about double (I think) of what a person’s daily caloric intake should be so it was perfect for us after several hours of shoveling snow.

Oh my goodness! Those are perfect! You must have a green thumb!

My grandparents call them “sili” and would occasionally place them in a bottle of coconut vinegar. They look exactly like the ones I purchased from Longwood Gardens, PA years ago (sold as Thai Dragon Pepper). These plants (dwarf) only grow about 2 feet (60 cm?) and the ornamental kind will stay small BUT do not underestimate their spicy power! I ended up having to go to my PCP’s (GP) office to get my eyes flushed. My fingers were stingy for almost a day – worse than jalapeños.

Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it! I ended up giving mine away to my aunt and they did thrive by her kitchen window for a couple of years (morning sun). They may get slightly bigger but don’t expect much. Maybe they will grow differently with compost?

My grandmother used to water her plants with rice water, lol. She calls it “hugas bigas”, which is the water used to wash rice but instead of throwing it out, she saves it in a huge bucket and uses it to water her plants. They stink – consider yourself warned.

IMO, it doesn’t look like you need help; I think you should start giving us lessons. Good luck and enjoy! They are beautiful!

EDIT: We are talking about the same thing; my aunt said it’s “siling labuyo”. I didn’t know what “labuyo” was so I had to ask.

PHILADELPHIA CREAM CHEESE

Pardon me for shouting but I just want to make sure you heard me. Thank you for the recipe. ヾ(๑╹◡╹)ノ"

Congratulations!

Yes, you’ll definitely need a good quality ladder and:

– Set of screwdrivers. My Stanleys are over 20 years old

– Separate flathead for kitchen use only (instead of using your forks to open stuff)

– Fire extinguisher (leave one in kitchen)

– All-purpose or silicone caulk and caulk gun. (In case of emergency and if your house is old).

– Scissors

– First Aid Kit (you can make your own, I did)

– Multi-tool or Utility knife (I love my SOG)

– Flashlight (combination of battery-powered, rechargeable, heck even a tealight will do). Ideally, some form of light for each room in the house if you lose power (nothing expensive).

– Shovel and Salt before it snows (If you have pets, get the [blue] pet-friendly salt). Always buy it before it snows. Keep it in the house the night before it snows so you can dig yourself out.

– If your windows are old, read up on removable window film, magnetic window film (3M makes them also)

– 409 (they clean almost everything)

phone number of a good electrician and plumber (my GC is awesome but she’s stateside only)

– Plunger. Don’t buy the orangey-plastic snake - they don’t work.

– I have DeWalt (and a bunch of batteries) but prefer my Makita. Black & Decker is a toy, don’t do it. Milwaukee sucks. If you’re not using power tools now, don’t buy them or wait until they go on sale.

– Surge protectors (the higher/more joules, the better). You definitely need those.

– WD-40

Canada has some very good quality wind turbines (for home use, not the gigantic ones) that you might want to consider; I hear your solar panels are pretty good, too.

Buy what you can afford; check out thrift shops, yard sales, flea markets for some tools.

Most of all, know your limitations. My house is old and I knew what I could do myself, what I would be willing to do and the rest I need for someone else to do.

Every year you’ll have more questions and we will be here for you… with answers you may or may not like.

Good luck and Enjoy!

Prison guard. You can’t leave work during your shift, you’re in prison.

Prostitution. My apologies if this subject is taboo. However, it is the oldest profession in the world and stood the test of time. I have a vivid imagination and I’m having trouble imagining what would happen if I’m just not attracted or aroused.

The NY Post is owned by News Corp which is under Rupert Murdoch’s ownership.

Wikipedia has NY Post’s format listed as tabloid.

In the more than 300-year history of the Brazilian city of Curitiba, no city councillor had ever been removed from office until 2022, when a promising young Black local politician was forced out.

Renato Freitas had been accused of “breaching parliamentary decorum” by leading an anti-racism protest that ended inside a Catholic church – ironically named Church of the Black Men and built by enslaved people in the 18th century.

The expulsion was eventually overturned by the supreme court, but it was far from the last case brought against the 41-year-old Freitas, a rising star in the leftist Workers’ party of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

He [Freitas] got his ass beat and was left naked in a police station yet he is the one accused of “breaching decorum”.
His accusers need to come over to my family’s house on Superbowl Sunday so we can teach them what breach of decorum really means.

TBH, I doubt that she would be allowed in…

No.7 👍🏼

In case you’re feeling patriotic, they’re based in the UK. It won’t break the bank. I don’t know your skincare preference but I prefer the No7 Future Renew™ Damage Reversal Night Cream and the No7 Derm Solutions Daily Lightweight Moisturizer during the day. Most of the gentlemen I know prefer the lightweight moisturizer.

Maybe you can get a sample and try it out first to see how you like it.

Aveda is also very good and a little pricier. If it matters to you, they are owned by Estée Lauder (along with Clinique, MAC, Origins, etc.). Good Luck!

Yes.

“We’re not at all surprised the UK government is deploying this tactic now when the world is paying attention to the horrors unfolding, they’d rather silence the discussion than confront their own complicity,” the moderators of r/IsraelCrimnes told me. “By labeling brutally documented atrocities as ‘mature content’ and gate‑keeping access, they reveal themselves as hypocrites: preaching democracy and human rights abroad while trampling them at home.”

It gets better /s:

Reddit explained that it will verify users' age by partnering with Persona, an identity verification company that raised $200 million in April in a series D round led by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund. Persona asks users to upload a selfie or photo ID in order to verify their age. Reddit says it does not have access to these images, and that Persona does not retain those photos for more than seven days.

Take a deep breath…

EDIT added /s for sarcasm

ATK’s recipe calls for 8 bone-in chicken thighs, I used drumsticks because that’s what I had. I used 2 bay leaves instead of 4 because the ones I have were big (LAXMI brand from India). Instead of using 3/4 cup cider vinegar, I used fresh squeezed calamansi and 1/2 of a lemon to make 3/4 cup.

Traditionally, Filipino chicken adobo requires Datu Puti® vinegar and Silver Swan® soy sauce. At least that’s what my grandmother used to tell us. I used Kikkoman because of its lighter and slightly sweet flavor. Also, that’s what I grew up with.

Silver Swan® soy sauce and Datu Puti® vinegar

Depending on what region you explore in the Philippines and which families you meet, there’s always a variation of that Filipino chicken adobo. My aunt makes it with chicken feet for the collagen and my uncle adds muscovado sugar when he makes adobong baboy.

Unlike my grandmother, ATK’s recipe is very forgiving. Does your family have a special way of making the national dish of the Philippines?

The Calamansi…

The citrusy calamansi is native to the Philippines and parts of Asia. This particular calamansi plant has been thriving in the eastern US for decades and even bears fruit in the winter. How so? It’s in a pot next to a big window and never leaves home past September. It’s flowers have an intoxicating aroma reminiscent of another Philippine native- the sampaguita.

Currently, this beautiful plant is on vacation at my friend’s front porch as I repaint my living room walls. In exchange for caring for the calamansi plant, my friend was gifted with fruits and made her own calamansi juice albeit heavy-handed with the sugar. She has used it to top off her pancit and received many likes on her social media accounts for the calamansi photos she posted.
