Yeah but the problem with that argument is that when kind and empathetic people have to starve and beg for money with equal or higher level of quality output compared to those who peddle racism and bigotry, it feels like the world only rewards racism and bigotry.

You tell me: there are a lot of great projects that don't spread hatred, bigotry and disparity but they don't get even a fraction of the funding this project gets. And this project is just some dotfiles over ArchLinux. Even Archlinux didn't get this much funding in one go.

The spirit of open-source is built on Kindness and Empathy. When a movement such as that is slowly hijacked by people who are ideologically opposed to kindness and empathy, then the kind and empathetic get deprived of a sense of place and belonging.

I guess it makes sense. Not doing anything is good in and of itself. Boredom needs embracing. I still remember getting entertained in my childhood seeing some ants move around and react to dead insects and carrying leaves.

I am not concerned about not having anything to show for my free time. I am just not finding interest doing stuff which could indicate something worse.

Well it's like this: a thief keeps knocking on people's doors and says that their locks are not theft proof.. and insists that it has always been so as the thief is also the locksmith.

So entire society is the villain. Their parents are villains, grandparents, friends, government, they themselves.

I don't have generational wealth like many of these actors do. There's also a lot of nepotism and if you are not an industry insider, it's near impossible to even meet people who have connections in the industry.
