Cheers! I since see someone already posted a version of this over there with a slightly misleading headline "Minecraft is leaving Reddit". So I'll leave it for now but good to know for next time

Our relatively new'ish party (currently at level 3) consists of:

• (me) Tortle Druid (Circle of Stars); have visions of firing off astral arrows & guiding bolts into foes aplenty but usually end up in Chalice form so I can revive both my downed fellow adventurers at once
• Wood Elf Ranger; is an expert in mountainous terrain, entire campaign is set in a coastal swamp
• Tiefling Fighter; talks to her weapons/items all the time like they're actual people. Now has a ring of mind shielding with the soul of a wizard in it so her item talks back now

We're all a bit amateur hour and make lots of mistakes! Our first combat encounter with this adventuring party almost had a TPK to a trapped chest of all things! Two party members down and what does the Ranger do? Oooh, I wonder what's in that chest? BANG! Ok, I only have ONE hp left, maybe I should take a lie down now? I wonder how the others are doing? 🤣

LOL I was like, I know about this, I can help! I play on Realms with my Nephews (but we're both on Bedrock) and then I read @whileloop@lemmy.world's comment and yeah, you should go with their advice 🤣

The older Nephew and I prefer survival but my younger Nephew only plays creative so the kinda wonky solution we came up with is we'd start up a survival game and every now and then I'd say OK, we're going into creative mode and I'd switch over and let the younger nephew stock up on stacks upon stacks of their favourite blocks, spawn eggs, whatever they wanted then we'd switch back to survival. The two of us would go back to laboriously branch mining for precious diamonds and building a modest base out of cobble and oak planks while he would be building a mansion out of diamond blocks and sea-lanterns 😀

This feels like it should be cross-posted to !minecraft@lemmy.world but I don't know how to do that? 🤔 Hopefully a few people start looking around for an alternative place to hang out. Even if 0.5% of that sub moved over to Lemmy you'd have a really stong community here!

I was thinking of the supermarket duopoly we have here in New Zealand were the two major players own 85% of the total market. So it might not be comparible to this type of store? Margins here are around 20% so that's coloured my read of this story. The obcene profits here are at the retailer and they pressure the wholesellers to reduce prices to where they can even exceed a 20% margin. We're definitly in a "It would be a shame if your product couldn't be found on our shelves" situation. They own everything from small country town stores to large city supermarkets.

Yeah, because hiring staff back and getting rid of self help checkouts is impossible?? How would they even go about that?

Or, and here's a radical idea, drop your prices so people can actually afford to pay for the food??

I've never desired a car to get around. Cars just never interested me in that way. I've always just loved biking everywhere. I find driving tiring, stressful, annoying. I find biking fun, relaxing and energising.

After I got my first proper job I got a car because I was led to believe I'd need one for work. Never once did I ever have to use one for work and although I used my car for other reasons I just prefered to bike places as that's what I'd always done.

In the few years before covid I was only using my car a few times a year, mostly to take it in for repairs and so I toyed with the idea of going carless. Eventually I sold my car as I realised I only ever used it to take it in for a WoF, or to the workshop for the inevitable repairs and very little else.

Then I got hit by a car while biking. After surgery and rehabilitation I was back biking but it wasn't the same. I sought out all the dedicated cycle lanes, changed my route to work and was cycling more than ever but in a very different way. I no longer mixed with cars if I could help it. And I get annoyed at how much infrastructure is dedicated to cars and how little is to bikes. Endless roads, highways, on ramps, off ramps, side of road parking, parking buildings, acres and acres of car parks, driveways, garaging, drive throughs, on and on and on it goes?!

One day it just clicked (snapped?). EVERY road has not one but TWO dedicated lanes at the side of the street, reserved for cars to just be dumped, usually free of charge, for however long you need to leave it there. But we hardly ever get any dedicated lanes for cyclists! It drives me nuts!? Every. Single. Road. has not one but TWO entire lanes dedicated to leaving cars but god forbid we put in ONE cycle lane! People lose their minds when a protected cycle lane goes in! They protest, they say their business will be ruined, they threaten cyclists, tear up bollards and go on and on about how hard it is to find a park these days because ONE street out of 100 dared to put in a single dedicated bike lane!

So there it is. Some of the factors involved. Others include things like saving money, saving the environment, keeping fit etc but mostly it's the incredible amount of infrastructure that drives me wild! Something like 40% of the inner city is taken up by stuff related to cars. Space that could be dedicated to trees, housing, parks, culture and entertainment or even businesses but no, we need MOaR car infrastructure!

Hasn't that already happened?! I can't recall the number of times I've had to say things like: No I'll walk thanks or I have a jacket, an umbrella, warm hat & gloves, I don't need a lift etc etc. It's infuriating?!

Oh, I forgot. Apparently it doesn't even work outside of your home wifi network (it needs to be on the same wifi as the PS5??) making it even less functional than a phone using remote play?! So weird?!

no longer feel that Reddit is an appropriate place to post official content or refer our players to.

So now's the time to try and get as many people and mods over from /r/Minecraft and grow this community! And hopefully one day they might post official content here instead!
