Come on. Obama's continuation of presidential power-creep is not what enables Trump. Trump getting elected, taking over the Supreme Court, getting elected again, having all the billionaires lick his ass, etc is what enables him.

If you wanna lay it on Obama, blame him for not taking the right wing seriously enough and going after them at the local level where they had been building strength for the past 50+ years. Or for not betraying all his moderate-conservative supporters to implement some seriously progressive policy.

ASD can be a challenge, for sure. "dont approach others since i respect boundaries" is the thing you need to change: respecting boundaries doesn't mean never talking to someone, it means allowing them to set boundaries.

A simple way to do this is, "hi I'm gmtom. Mind if I sit here?" Sitting next to someone is generally understood as an invitation to talk.

You could also try leaning into the ASD a little: "hi I'm gmtom and my special interest is arachnids. [smile, because you are making fun of yourself a little] Want to hear some neat facts about spiders?"

However you introduce yourself, the way you respect boundaries is that when they say, "no." You reply, "OK," and leave.

If you don't feel confident about reading peoples' body language, I would also try to check in every so often. Again, you can try owning the autism: "I'm autistic and can't read your body language very well. Am I boring you or is this cool?" And again, respecting boundaries means you accept it if they say "I don't want to talk anymore."

You will not succeed every time. Meeting people and making friends is a lot of work and takes practice (like: how much talking vs listening should you do? There's no one correct answer, unfortunately). Charismatic people got a head start from their brain-types during childhood, but they are charismatic because they keep meeting and talking with new people to exercise their skills.

Because (like genAI) crypto-coin people as a general population will not shut up and it gets annoying to keep hearing the same spiel. And it's an insulting one, about how everyone not on the Bitcoin train is a stupid loser and we'll be kissing their ass and wishing we were them when the whole thing really rockets off. Sometimes that part isn't entirely explicit, but I hear it in almost every pro-Bitcoin rant.

For a reference point: I'm a millennial, living in a pretty liberal state of the US. Reading the front page of Reddit (not logged in, running ad-blockers so I think I get a "generic" experience), Ars Technica, occasional HackerNews threads, Something Awful forums. My friend circles are unanimous that Israel is an apartheid state, Russia is an invader, immigrants are not any kind of problem. It includes a few trans people who are vocal about their experiences. I would not call it a radically progressive group. For example, I don't think most of them would actually be comfortable with mass-executions of wealthy people.

Before joining Lemmy, I'd never encountered "tankies" in enough quantity for them to have any kind of label or for anyone to self-identify as "anti-tankie". It's still a weird idea to me.

Based on the article, it seems like cult-follower behavior. Not everyone is susceptible to cults (I think it's a combo of individual brain and life-circumstances), but I wouldn't say, "eh, it's not the cult's fault that these delusional people killed themselves!"

When I see people saying he's definitely innocent, I mostly read that as a reaction against the media which portrays all suspects as 100% guilty. And that's a pretty fucked-up thing, right? Like, suppose there's a real trial and we all get to see that the evidence against Manione is garbage and that he's clearly innocent and he gets correctly exonerated. Even still, he'll spend the rest of his life as "Luigi, that dude who killed the CEO!" because that's what people saw on TV long before his trial.
