I have a FairPhone and the hardware is fine and very repairable (being able to replace the usb socket has saved me from buying a new phone). The android alternative e/os has a lot of criticism the launcher is awful, feels like a cheap Chinese knock off of iPhone-like interface but you can at least swap it out and it's not as secure as something like graphene os. You're making a tradeoff whatever choice you make.

R has the same problems as far as I'm aware, though it doesn't form the core of a lot of modern CI of course!

When I looked into nix a year or two ago I was directed to use flakes by half of the documentation while the other half told me to not to use them since they were experimental. Ended up going back to what I knew, since, you know, installing things was a pretty solved problem.

It doesn't help that win10 support ending doesn't mean your device will immediately die. It means that you'll probably face some kind of consequences at some point in the following year and years to come, which is too hand-wavey for most people.

Right, but my point is that that wasn't explained in the post, and it's not the only thing in the article that is stated as "you should do this thing" without telling the reader why.

Only heard a couple people talk about it online (that I trust to be reasonable) and they basically said it was fine but didn't blow them away. And that's fine but it makes for boring "cOnTeNt".

I wouldn't call this "beginner" but some useful stuff nonetheless. Some of the points could use some justification or a reason to do it, eg using 127.1 over 127.0.0.1.

The fact Microsoft isn't mentioned astounds me.

I haven't heard anyone articulate anything compelling about consumer-marketed AI so please tell me! There's loads of really good uses of AI (medical imaging seems really promising) but the ones I know about are so specialised that I can't see why I would need "AI" in my day to day.

Have they got rid of the rootkit yet?

I agree with those saying mailing lists are intimidating. I don't know if others are using dedicated tools or something but I find web based mailing list UIs just incomprehensibly bad and difficult to navigate.
