I despise that I'm part of the machine

So... Stop? Is someone holding a gun to your head and forcing you to work for meta?

I don't know much about how national parks work in practice but they seem to be a way to create little feifdoms for people to get into positions of power, even if it is just the power to say you can't park in a certain place overnight.

I think there's a bit of "whoosh" happening...

You do you. People generally discourage rebase because it rewrites history but that's what you're doing anyway. You can achieve the same result with revase --interactive and following the instructions to squash all your in progress commits into a single commit. That way you don't have to figure out how many commits between your in progress and dev(for your reset command) as the rebase will handle it for you.

So I put debug mode on and I see no requests to Ionos which seems like it's the main problem.

Yes I've got the domain I just replaced example.com for explanation purposes. Yes I know public certs are easily searchable which is why I'm trying to use a wildcard domain (*.local) which is public. Caddy should be handling the domain record updates as required but I would assume that I'd see an error from the API request to update the record before seeing the cert failure. Maybe it's silently failing. I'll check if possible.

Yeah that's where I think the fediverse is failing new users. Talking about the fediverse itself and instancing etc is just making it sound complicated. No other social media/forum/whatever talks about its technology in such an up front way, for good reason.
