Right now it feels we have a growing chorus of people raising alarm, but very few people proposing any specific actions that are commensurate with the scale of the crisis? I appreciate your work and I don’t mean this flippantly, but do you have any proposals more specific than “resist” or “do something”?

This comment is my thought exactly. Brock isn’t wrong, but he’s just blowing real hard and hoping the house falls down.

All this blog did was piss me of, but it didn’t point me in a direction.

Truth is, people celebrated before we had any idea who this guy was. He wasn’t famous or a public figure before he was killed. People didn’t hate the man that died, nor his kids.

People cheered because of what he represented. People didn’t celebrate his death, they celebrated that it made his type of person look like they aren’t untouchable.

Anyone who has kids and wants to leave a good legacy for their kids will now have to take into account whether they want their kids to end up like this guy’s kids. I know I won’t be accepting any c-suite jobs any time soon, but I’ve turned down jobs in the past because they didn’t align with my morals.

This is the type of “buried treasure” story that kids have these days.

I just imagine a movie like The Goonies but instead of talking about a cave full their treasure, they tell stories about the “flash drive full of gold” that’s buried somewhere in the deepest reaches of the garbage dump.

I’m glad you are still with us to share this story. You wrote in such a clear and eloquent way; it’s clear you cared very much about us that you took the time to communicate effectively.

My father is currently in a nursing home (just for normal end of life stuff). He was a deadbeat most of my life and treated his health really poorly.

It’s cruel that he was able to live the way he did and live for so long, while you’ve done nothing to “earn” your maladies; yet, you’re both in a similar situation (except no one wants to go see him, because of him being a PoS for most of his life). You don’t seem like a deadbeat or a PoS, so as far as I’m concerned, you win.

I hope things turn around completely for you and you’re restored back to full health.

Sounds like he was just being an asshole and wanting to end the interview which the reported kept extending with questions. Seems like this is non-news.

I couldn’t disagree more.

In medical I would end up being apart of endless retirement gathering meetings, then draft up the SOW doc only to have stakeholders change requirements when they were reviewing the doc. Then months later once the doc was finally finished and I could do the development, when UAT time finally came, they’d say the build wasn’t what they wanted (though it matched the written requirements).

Most of the projects I saw executed in the last 4 years either got scrapped altogether or got bogged down in political bs for months trying to get the requirements “just right”.

It was a nightmare. You could blame me, or the company, or bad processes all you want, but I’ve never had fun on a waterfall project, especially not in medical. (Though, in my opinion, we are severely understaffed and need like 4 more BAs.)

I actually think it’s just bandwagoning by a bunch of cowards.

We saw this same phenomenon early last year too: Facebook laid off a bunch of employees, then Apple announced the same, then Microsoft, then Google, then Salesforce, then the infamous Twitter layoffs.

I think big tech is so sensitive to negative press that they all just wait and lay off folks at the same time so no single company takes all the bad press.

It doesn’t even have to be Illuminati-level coordination, either. All it takes is for some exec at Tech Company B to see that Tech Company A is firing people. Then Tech Company B decides to clean house too. The cascade is just a bunch of morons deciding to hop on the “let’s fuck over our employees to help our balance sheet” train.
