A lot of people like to call C low level, maybe in modern times that's fair? It misses the historical context of why it's not usually considered one though and it's ultimately sort of relative.

Computer engineering is typically hardware and low level software design which doesn't really fit the analogy you're going for.

Powerful yes, powerful enough to replace a PC, I suppose only if you don't do that much heavy compute

Probably also depends on what country you're coming in from. I have virtually no social media presence myself but when I came back to the US I didn't even have to speak to CBP, they had an automated facial scanning system and just required you to be holding your passport. This is as a citizen, I'm sure the process for foreigners is less lax.

Router yes, actually router is running coreboot and tiano core with OpenWRT. Does still have proprietary microcode though, and WiFi firmware. All my WAPs also run OpenWRT. I don't have a modem, I have fiber. The ONT is probably running something proprietary but as far as I'm concerned that's ISP equipment, not mine. Phone...not quite. I tried...it is running an AOSP rom...but going to a full Linux phone never quite worked out. That being said I was originally referring to my laptop and desktop which make use of no proprietary software or drivers. I do go FOSS to the extreme as much as possible. I just haven't figured out the phone. I did try going f-droid only for a while but it made basic tasks on my phone substantially more difficult.

I definitely think this was a good move. Proprietary video codecs are silly and I'm glad VP9 and AV1 have been so widely adopted. I do wish more services used them instead of h.264 but at least it's something.

/mnt or /media usually. I use /mnt for permanent filesystems and /media for removable ones but there are no hard rules. My home folder is a separate filesystem from my rootfs, just depends on how you want things setup.
