From the title "Junior Video Editor" and your description of the salary you proposed it sounds like this is an entry-level job that'll probably go to someone fresh out of school.

It's hard to read too much into it because this might just be a form letter, but it sounds like they genuinely thought you were a good candidate but they were looking for a more junior position. Sometimes this is dictated by their budget available.

Even if this is a form letter, they probably have a letter for the case where the salary was OK but they never want to hear from the candidate again. So you didn't get that letter, at least!

It looks like this was a "near miss". It's discouraging, but keep at it, you can do it.

When they switched to digital over-the-air signals like... 15? or so years ago, you could get free antenna converters from (somewhere?) and my roommate got one.

I think my grandparents had a wooden TV...

The big events of my Sunday were !superbowl@lemmy.world and Monsterdon. I consider this an absolute win. My cousin was telling me something about some halftime show but I was like huh?

Mixed feelings about Eurovision entries. I like seeing them without expectations. I had no warning that Kaarija's Cha Cha Cha or Go_A's SHUM were gonna be as epic as they are. I'll probably be on Mastodon when Eurovision's live.

Anyway, nothing's keeping you from the mainstream social media if that's where you'll find what you need. You're always welcome here!

A significant chunk of people on here seem extremely depressed.

Wait.... are we just gonna let this pass? Not sure how to feel about this...

Oh yeah good point! That ancient Mesopotamian nerd will also be like: "And they'll make up stories about talking ponies.... and they'll dress up like furry animals and have meetings together!" Oh, Mesopotamian nerd, you were born way too soon...

The nerd can also create a startup, and get a friend to be the business person. Usually this involves selling the startup to a large company at some point.

If the nerd is an academic, the university can "help" the academic to market the invention; the academic will get a tiny amount and the university gets the rest. Or the academic can create a startup on the side, and set up their favorite graduate as the business person.

I was gonna say "the timeless need to keep the kids quiet"... but I bet there was some ancient Mesopotamian nerd who made dozens of these and built a little model city and was like: one day the the wagons will drive themselves and there'll be roads everywhere and the people will live in tall buildings and fly in the sky...

Ancient Mesopotamian nerd, I salute you!

click here for a list of meme communities

MEMES, SOCIAL MEDIA REPOSTS, AND HUMOR (NON-POLITICAL)

Most of these are currently active. (except for the ones with a * which were less active last I checked). Sometimes politics sneaks in but that's not the focus.

the more popular places on the Fediverse seem to be stagnating right now

Dunno, from Fediverse Observer, it looks like lemmy and mastodon are growing slowly over the last couple weeks. (the mastodon stats look a little weird tho -- there's a plummet on Jan 30th that looks like a data collection artifact.)

Excellent point, do you happen to know where I can find longer-term usage data?
