Fun fact, medieval serfs, despite only being a rung or two above being actual slaves, had anywhere from 100 to 150 days off every year.

When we call ourselves wage slaves, honestly it's only a wee bit hyperbolic.

My latest account just got its first warning.

There's a pretty horrific story this week in the UK about a guy with a severe mental disability who threw a child into a crocodile pen at a wildlife park.

Someone said they think anyone who does that should be put in front of a firing squad.

I replied that we shouldn't be shooting disabled people. I got a warning for implying exactly the opposite of what I was arguing, while the original comment (which I reported after getting my warning), is still up 48 hours later.

The status quo is a helluva drug.

Whilst we're at it can someone explain;

A) a photon travels at the speed of light because it is massless, right? But doesn't E=mc² teach us that mass and energy are somewhat interchangeable? How can a photon have energy but no mass?

B) I'm willing to accept it as fact when smarter people tell me that FTL is impossible because, amongst other things, it will break causality. It makes perfect sense to me that the universe needs to have some unbreakable rules for things to remain consistent. But I've never been able to grasp exactly why it would break causality.

It's s all Star Trek-y.

Ironically, more than one Trek episode would only be five minutes long if they had all encompassing surveillance on Starfleet ships.

Men and women. Males and females. Girls and boys. People are obsessed with gender to the point they forget we're all just human.

Last night I was watching these two chuds watch one of my favourite movies (Children of Men) and one of them, responding to Julianne Moore's character's behaviour said "Ah, I HATE women like that!" and it genuinely caused my brain to skip a beat. There was nothing about the character's actions that was specific to female behaviour. I don't understand why he couldn't have said "I hate PEOPLE like that."

I am an aspiring writer. I did a beta reader swap with one of my colleagues who just like me would like to be a sci-fi author. He was desperate to know how I was "so good" at writing women. Dude, lol, it's not hard. Literally all you have to do to avoid all the men-writing-women pitfalls is remember that women are human beings first and women second, with all the same desires, hopes and fears as men.

22 years ago I went to Madagascar as part of an organised group. We were scuba diving off the reefs in the south, cataloguing and counting fish and coral species.

I racked up over a 100 hours underwater in 2 months. I loved it. I was going to get my PADI training, then spend the rest of my live living in the tropics taking tourists our on boats.

I got back to Scotland and I haven't even snorkelled since, let alone scuba'd.

Recently saw the place I left a year ago put up a posting. It was word-for-word the same as the job I applied for 4 years previously but it had an extra sentence: MUST HAVE A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOUR.

This is code for: MUST BE OKAY WITH THE OWNER'S RAMPANT HOMO AND TRANS PHOBIA.

Israel knows it can do whatever the fuck it wants as long as it's actions don't personally offend Trump.
