I'm helping students and people with disability to navigate their devices and learn how to do things on their computer.

Sometimes I do this remotely, and I'm looking for software that would allow them to share their screen to me. And me to annotate on their screen (visible to them) or at least show my cursor so I can point at things.

I know this used to be possible with slack. But I would like to find an open-source and affordable alternative.

Anybody have some experience with this?

I worked as a software engineer.
AI is supposed to replace programmers, or at least help you write code.

But I never really wrote a lot of code in the first place??
I looked up libraries that do what I need and then wrote a bit of code in-between to link our API or GUI to the right functions of the selected library.

And these libraries were tested, functional and most of all consistent and reliable.

Now what do you want me to do? Ask an non-deterministic LLM to implement the code from scratch every time I need it in my project?
That doesn't makes sense at all.

That's like building a car and every day you ask somebody else to make you a new wheel. And every wheel will be slightly different than the previous. So your car will drive like shit.

Instead, why not just ask a reputable wheel manufacturer to make you 4 wheels? You know they will work. And in the case of programming, people are literally giving away good, reliable wheels for free! (free libraries and APIs)

Why use LLMs at all?

Doing nothing. That might be the biggest loss in the last decades.
There is just this overtone of restlessness and tension that didn't seem to be present prior.

Also connection with your local community. 50 years ago, it was basically a given. It was part of life.
Now, not so much.

I, for one, have a great attention span. I can easily spend several hours browsing lemmy shitposts.

I feel like it's still important to remember the numbers of some important contacts, so you can actually call them using somebody elses phone if yours dies or breaks. But I suppose not many people would bother

This is definitely dependent on the person writing. Some cursive is illegible, others is totally fine.

This one depends on where you live, I suppose. In some european countries it's still quite common to learn to drive with a manual.

I suppose it would be mostly practical skills, cooking, fixing things. Usually had to be done by people themselves.

Maybe also mental things like navigating (with or without paper map) and remembering their daily and weekly agendas.

What other things would be a big difference with the people today?

Hi, I was wondering how people would time a 1 hour meditation session without setting an alarm on their phone.

I don't really want to keep my phone with me during meditation, but I do want to have a way to notice it's time to stop.

People somehow managed this in the past before phones existed right? So what would be a good way to do this?

When you feel uncomfortable, just let it be there. Dont try to push it away, feel it.

I recently did a first aid workshop. It's nice to learn the skills for first aid and cpr, but I was a bit terrified by the fact that all the participants will actually get a first aid certificate.

So I was recently told to try a loving-kindness exercise, and found it very difficult to follow the instructions.

So basically they have you first sit comfortably, Then you try to remember a person or situation you felt warm being loved (or loving) And then you want to focus on the feeling that this gives you. And finally think of a person you want to share this feeling with.

But I'm already stuck in the second part. I can't really remember something good that happened to me that would actually cause a feeling.

I just don't really notice any change.

Did anybody find a way to actually feel anything by thinking back on something? Or in any other way?

I was searching for communities on any instance of lemmy that deals with reconnecting with your emotions, or training emotional skills, but I didn't manage to find anything.

Any other places/keywords I can look for? Also for people wanting to share experiences about emotional neglect, and CPTSD?

Hi all

I've recently learned more about these concepts: Alexithymia being emotional blindness, and emotional neglect resulting from how I grew up in my childhood.

I often (every week) find myself completely exhausted, painful, and often vomiting every morning. This seems to happen more frequently and intensely when I'm going to work/training.

I'm trying to find a way to be aware of any emotions I might feel and try to place them before getting overwhelmed. But often it still results in a shutdown basically.

Anyone have tips on how to deal with this?

I feel the same about multiplayer games without gated progression and LAN server hosting. (Or local/splitscreen)

These days I can't even play a multiplayer game with friends somewhere with shitty internet. And because of progression you have to force yourself to only play together, but never with different people or by yourself because then you will get ahead.

Spammers would love this feature. they'll even pay for a subscription that makes your phone automatically pick up.

In the future, actual hacking will just involve social engineering corporate ai systems ( aka prompt hijacking )

I'm currently using an old charger like this:

It's great. Easy to carry with me, uses a two-pin cable so I can easily buy a cheap 2 dollar cable in the country I'm traveling. It's light, and I use a few short (30cm) cables to charge my laptop, phone and other stuff.

I would like to get another one, but it seems like they are no longer sold from the original manufacturer.

I'm searching around online, but the only alternatives I find seem to be very bulky and not easily carried with you. Or they are wall chargers, which is very inconvenient, needing 4 long cables to reach your devices, and often taking up multiple plugs because they are so bulky.

Anybody that knows if these are still sold anywhere? This one is 65W, but with GaN tech, I expected to see more of these compact chargers with the same weight and thickness outputting maybe 100W. But I can't find anything

I've been thinking about how LLMs like ChatGPT change the expectation that at any time, anywhere, you will have the information you need at your fingertips.

It seems useful to cope with some difficulties in life at the beginning. (Similarly to having a smartphone with you at all times)

But over time it seems to increase anxiety because you feel dependent on these tools to be able to handle certain situations.

Every time I avoid using these tools but instead try to use a simple notebook or just think things through in my mind (When possible of course, definitely not when overwhelmed) . I feel like my capacity to do so slightly increases in future situations.

But when using these tools, even though it's easier and requires less effort in that moment, I feel more anxious in the future. (Especially when I don't have internet connection or my battery is running low)

Does anyone else have similar experiences?
