I asked a question at a bank to a teller and they used Gemini to answer it. All they had to do was enter a term into their database (they did that later - because Gemini was wrong).

Yes, the LLMs that are famously bad at arithmetic are now being forced onto staff in banks. This will end well.

How is an organisation totally dependent on govt funding and legal backing (and whose board is appointed by the PM) in any way "independent" ?

[–] ThomasWilliams@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago

Direct gov funding seems out of the question as independence is required for reputational reasons at least

It is dependent on direct govt funding now. The independence comes from being run by a trust.

The only politically viable solution is to abolish the licence and allow advertising on some services.

Because Biden promised to cut back on gas production in Texas.

[–] ThomasWilliams@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

It was because of Biden's promise to cut back the gas industry in the SW.

I don't get it, if they want to remove birthright citizenship couldn't they just amend the Constitution with a referendum ?

It would have a reasonable chance of passing.

Also because it was costing them $400 to provide $1 of compute...

This is garbage.

The camera works in real time and doesn't store anything.

The car won't start.

Britain follows the same design rules as the EU, otherwise foreign manufacturers could undercut European cars in the British market. And if that happened, British made cars would be subject to the same tiny import quotas that non-EU cars have to comply with.

[–] ThomasWilliams@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Can you put tape over the camera?

Then the car won't start.

BTW 90% of cars on the market already have this function.

[–] ThomasWilliams@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, and then the car will slow to a stop.

They've just changed the format of Reddit and now there is no way to set the country for feeds. It just uses "everywhere" which is 90% Indian bot posts. I can't really use old Reddit on my phone.
