My cheap knockoff elgato has that and it still creeps me out when I use it lol.

Like usual with us humans and our fickle minds, YMMV.

There are many factors that can impact this, though I would clarify - you aren't losing memories, they're there, just harder to access. You aren't losing your sense of self, it's evolving - who you are as a person is constantly changing.

For me personally, as someone with aphantasia I've never really been in touch with my memories in the first place. I've been very much a "in the moment" person - despite that my past experiences do define me, even if I don't know why.

Undiagnosed but in the same boat - psychiatrist treats me for it.

Although for me it doesn't matter if I know the person or not, looking into their eyes feel too intimate. But I could by looking at the bridge if their nose, because somehow the brain meat sees that as completely different and people don't notice (unless they're like, inches from my face but then we have other problems).

Yes, the menu on mobile says "Platform powered by PeerTube" on the bottom.

Javascript

Short and sweet. Basically just handle all the range overlaps for part 2 and then do basic subtraction to get the answer.

spoiler

const input = require('fs').readFileSync('input-day5.txt', 'utf-8');

/** @typedef {[number, number]} Range */

/** @type {[Range[], number[]]} */
const [freshRanges, availableIngredients] = input.split("\n\n").map(l => l.split("\n")).map((l, i) => (i === 1) ? l.map(v => parseInt(v, 10)) : l.map(v => v.split('-').map(vv => parseInt(vv, 10))));

let freshOnHand = 0;

for (const ingredient of availableIngredients) {
    for (const [start, stop] of freshRanges) {
        if (ingredient >= start && ingredient <= stop) {
            freshOnHand += 1;
            break;
        }
    }
}

console.log(`Part 1 Answer: ${freshOnHand}`);

const sortedRanges = [...freshRanges].sort((a, b) => a[0] - b[0]);

const mergedRanges = [];
let current = sortedRanges[0];

for (let i = 1; i < sortedRanges.length; i++) {
    const [nextStart, nextEnd] = sortedRanges[i];

    if (nextStart <= current[1] + 1) {
        current = [current[0], Math.max(current[1], nextEnd)];
    } else {
        mergedRanges.push(current);
        current = [nextStart, nextEnd];
    }
}

mergedRanges.push(current);

const freshIngredientCount = mergedRanges.reduce((acc, [start, stop]) => acc + ((stop + 1) - start), 0)

console.log(`Part 2 Answer: ${freshIngredientCount}`);

Ha, if he said duckDNS I was going to recommend something more reliable like freedns.afraid.org.

That being said, the description in his post doesn't make it seem that way.

I don't think there is a "best way" - but increasing costs is one way. Singapore is an example of this - you have pay up 106K SGD for the COE (certificate of entitlement) to even be allowed to own a car.

The report came from a (non-US) government agency. It wasn't reported as AI generated, that was what we discovered.

But it highlights the reality - while AI generated content may be considered fairly obvious for now, it won't be forever. Real CSAM could be mixed in at some point, or, hell, the characters generating it could be feeding it real CSAM to have it recreate it in a manner that makes it harder to detect.

So what does this mean for hosting providers? We continuously receive reports for a client and each time we have to review it and what, use our best judgement to decide if it's AI generated? We add the client to a list and ignore CSAM reports for them? We have to tell the government that it's not "real CSAM" and expect it to end there?

No legitimate hosting provider is going to knowingly host CSAM, AI generated or not. We aren't going to invest legal resources into defending that, nor are we going to jeopardize the mental well-being of our staff by increasing the frequency of those reports.

That's how I describe my aphantasia, only the wireframe is metaphorical.

The biggest indicator to me is if I see something gory or otherwise visually disturbing it doesn't haunt me in my mind, as soon as it's no longer there it's gone. People who can visualize do run the risk of seeing it later (although some don't get random imagery).

My dog is old and going deaf and blind. Anytime I leave him he whines, I had to leave him with a friend for about a week to attend a wedding and apparently he whined the entire time. I don't know what I did to deserve this kind of love but I know he doesn't hate me.

You'd think the hottest day record being broken daily for what, a week back to back, would kick our asses into gear. Instead most people barely acknowledged it.

As someone with aphantasia (can't visualize) and no inner voice, I prefer audiobooks, if the narrator is even mediocre. They also work well with my ADHD, since I struggle with mental tasks without multitasking - audiobooks help me do the chores and commute - even if I don't remember the audiobook lol. I frequently have to rewind.
