Oh good. I was only 98% sure I was done buying consoles forever. It's good to really know.

I might make exceptions for consoles/devices that run linux off the shelf. (I want to get a steam frame, ok?)

Only poors can do terrorism, silly!

Gross.

I continue to have my own little cognitive dissonance about the Fediverse:

The world needs more FOSS and information needs to flow in a decentralized, democratic kind of way.

Howeverrrrr.... Lemmy is awesome for we few that it clicks with. For the good of the users and especially the volunteer admins who run our instances, I am glad Lemmy is not the big glowing target that reddit is.

Maybe we just hang out and keep the lights on no matter whether it's for occasional lost Linux users or for when mainstream folks decide to ditch oligarch-tech en masse.

When choosing my son's name I had two rules:

  1. No super popular top 10 or 20 name. There were plenty of very popular choices that I liked as names. But, I figured let's try to find something at least a little unique for various reasons.

However!

  1. They shall not need to spell their name every time they tell it to somebody. This implies a few things, like choosing an established first name people have heard before rather than making something up, and using the common spelling of that name.

The whole domain of foster care, CPS/CYF offices, and adoptions is a huge and tragic world that exists all around us but is invisible to most people.

Almost anybody who works in that world is in the same situation as jobs like teachers and game developers where passionate people are aggressively exploited by the business drones. But they have to deal with sadder higher stakes while getting even worse pay and nowhere near the resources they need. So then they become victims of the system too.

And we all know that here in the US at least, our population does not give a fuuuuuuck about living children breathing air outside wombs. And when they are poor and "urban?" Forget about it.

I can hear conservative distant relatives now: "Sounds like his baby mama should have taken better care of him!" (Of course with the term "baby mama" shoehorned in where it doesn't fit in order to make sure the sentence ends with an air of racism and dehumanization of an innocent child)

Well look at mister fancy brain over here who’s all like “I see an important thing that needs to be done and then I go do it” and shit!

I saw a distant acquaintance of mine complaining online as soon as it happened. Something about the drag last supper being a direct attack on their way of life.

It had everything. Persecution complex. America is the whole world. Bigotry. Anger.

Yeah sure but for some of us it’s not because we have over-complicated our homes.

It’s because we do “fix the damn tech” at work all day and are too damn old to do it at home as well!

Sup, fellow XCHWM here. My first thought was to agree and say something about how people’s right to exist and live the life that is normal to them doesn’t depend on anybody understanding or approving it. And assuming it’s peaceful and all that. You know, decent human stuff.

But then I reread your last line and got saddened by imagining the mental state of JKR. Imagine you are not just rich, but an adored famous artist, an American Dream success story, and doubly mega fucking rich to the point that you could just walk around giving random people life-changing amounts of money all day while funding other big amazing shit… and your mind is distracted by anger and fear towards the existence of other people you don’t even know. And now your famous name is attached to that awful attribute.

I use mint, btw.

(…Not really but it fits the joke the best. I have used it and it’s an excellent distro whether you are a beginner or just want something stable and full featured. )

If we can’t joke about serious current events in our nerdy little federated corner of the internet, then what is life even for?
