I have no experience with this, but it might be worth to investigate what Home Assistant has to offer both as a DLNA server and clients (I'm thinking on cheap SBCs in each room..)

"Regression to the mean", it was studied a century, or so, ago. It's not about stress directly but the average/ natural/ non-stressful height is the most probable outcome indeed.
By default it consumes 30% of RAM as cache (ARC). And, we have btrfs now, which is a huge contender "CoW" filesystem for desktop.

Did you communicate about it with your partner? That's probably a great starting point. Go for a chill afternoon of opening. Sometimes, we go through so much together that we take the other for granted, or just forget to open-up and share our innermost feelings with enough room of both space and time.
