Hainan gibbon

The Hainan gibbon is the world’s rarest ape and one of the rarest mammal species on Earth – there are only about 37 of them alive today. In the 1950s their population stood at about 2,000 individuals, but it underwent a severe decline in the late 20th century due to habitat loss and hunting
