For Music and streaming, specially for hi-res audio. SACD etc streaming, take a look at lyrion music server. The best solution of the myriad I tried self-hosting. Supports podcasts and audiobooks as well

Try the rgb color balance module, play with the overall saturation and vibrance. You can also use it to shift shift all colors to warmer shades. See the second tab.

Explore Rotate and Perspective, and the crop Module for cropping, they are very simple to use

Lots of potential and ease of use at the expense of tweakability and advanced features.

Also, having AI refill/retouch packaged in an easy to use package for Linux is nice.

It won't replace darktable in my case but it is a great addition to the toolbox.

Main challenge I see now is that it has basically a single developer. That is a big challenge mid-term and huge challenge long-term for any FOSS project

Yes. They have two options, I have the 8, there is also the 8L which is cheaper and still 3X the coral so surely more than enough.

If you install the official .deb, it's a set-and-forget type experience, pretty great. 6ms inference with 5 full HD cams. I don't even bother with the substreams.

I replaced (sold) my coral usb late last year after using it for 3 years. I upgraded my home server and wanted to go M.2 and noticed that frigate started to support a new chip, with many times the performance of the coral. I went with a Hailo-8. It's been flawless.

Recommendation: use the .deb driver that Hailo provides, it gets installed via dkms and survives kernel updates.

I used the ecolink device for some years until I discovered the Zen55, which I implemented a few weeks ago. The ecolink stopped detecting CO after I changed my interconnected alarm system to a new Kidde model as the old one started to give occasional false alarms. The ecolink was also unable to clear the CO Alarm once triggered with the old Kidde model I was using, it required removing and reading the device from the zwave network.

Zen55 worked perfectly, able to differentiate CO and smoke signals and auto-clears when the alarm condition stops. It requires no batteries.

Hey, thanks for the comment! Well for me this is my first step in the active cooling direction in a decade, I will include two fans, and the case is fully meshed. I went with the all-mesh version, no glass. The GPU is dual fan. I am expecting it to handle heat better than the H5 that forced me to power limit both CPU and GPU (both with passive cooling) and couldn't be pushed at all, and wouldn't accept fans. My hope for this new build is that it will transition from 0dba to some reasonable noise level with both fans at full speed when pushed to the limit and still sustain high load with no short freezes.

Why 0dba most of the time? Music fan here with a reasonable HiRes audio collection and nice speakers and the home office is my music cave. I have always hated computer noise while doing day to day compute, so many years back I got on a mission to eliminate all noise and succeeded at that with the H5. A decade ago there was nothing remotely comparable to alder-lake efficiency (and more recent iterations), the concept of fan-off most of the time didnt exist, I think. I believe this CPU with the Noctua nhP1 / z20, undervolted efficient GPU and on-demand fans will handle day to day compute and light pushing silently and better than with the H5, and will allow squeezing the CPU/GPU when necessary, at the cost of some noise.

 

I have been using my hdplex h5 for 9 years now (!!!), went through many builds. My current desktop is a 13900T with an RTX 3060, all fanless; 99% of the time, it's been great. I realize after such a long time that on occasion (1% of the time), I want all the compute power that this build has and I can't extract it from this build due to thermal throttling. The motherboard is a bit old (h670) and I need thunderbolt. So now I'm planning to use the opportunity that the motherboard upgrade brings to "semi-silent" or "silent almost all of the time", with a Jonsbo Z20 + NH-P1, keeping the CPU but using an ITX z790 mobo I bought in ebay. Planning to inlcude an undervolted gtx 5060Ti dual fan with "0dba support" (no fans below 50 degrees), and two noctuas, intake at the bottom of the case and exhaust at the rear. Fanless PSU (seasonic, 500w). My desktop OS is linux. Home desktop machine. A little steam gaming. A lot of photo editing (#darktable) Anybody in the community with experience in nh-p1 / semi-silent builds that can share real-world experience, will it able to handle 106W (13900T peak) keeping the CPU below throttling?

ASUS NUC 15 Pro Barebone Desktop PC - Black (Intel Core Ultra 5 225H/Intel Arc 130T Graphics)

For people installing Linux on this hardware, PSA: the ethernet controller uses the I226-V chipset (igc kernel driver) and, out of the box, has a severe problem: TCP connections downstream are limited to just around 40Mbps regardless of the ethernet port speed. Eg. I connect it directly to gigabit switch and was initially confused to see that download speed was terrible in this otherwise powerful little machine. speedtest-cli shows 35Mbps, terrible.

When I tested iperf3 locally with 20 simultaneous connections, I could see that the downstream could fill the 1Gbps pipe. Then testing iperf3 with just one connect, the speed slows down to about 40Mbps. Bizarre.

Two solutions:

  • Disable PCIe ASPM in BIOS/UEFI. This works fine, speedtest-clie went up to 900Mbps, but also had a consequence in CPU temps, NVME temps and power consumption. Not terrible, some 6 C degrees, and some 5 Watts on average.

I monitor this box closely, it's my new home server / HTPC. It runs 24/7 homeassistant, frigate, a bunch of other docker containers, kodi flatpak, retroarch flatpak etc.

My solution: enable ASPM globally in UEFI (the default), but disable it for the I226-V after boot:

I'd think one needs a half decent car to be able to show speed. Or do the comparison with his peer in the team. For the former he showed something with Williams. For the latter, he is not far from Gasly, with a decade less experience. But yes clearly a rookie and a lot to learn

 

Espresso fan here. Context - I've been preparing my daily espresso-based drink for some 15 years at home. I realized that most of these years, I've sourced beans from darkcity coffee. For the first few yeas, every now and then I would try neighbourhood roasters or even some Vancouver-based ones but either price was unreasonable or the consistency was lacking. For the last 5 years or so, I didn't try any other seller. Lately, price has gone up considerably as well. Time to explore. Maybe source locally in GTA; Etobicoke/Mississauga/West end - where I can pick up freshly roasted beans. Any recommendations?

These days my morning shot goes in a Cortado; with an occasional afternoon solo shot. My setup includes a great barista vario W grinder (12 years old and going strong!) and an ECM technika iv. Full-bodied, flavorfull, excellent crema is what I am after.

This project shows a lot of promise and I am following it. I run HomeAssistant as well in my home server. At this time though (or:last time I checked) it didn't support cuesheets at all, it fell a little short for my use case.
