I know but some strange part of me loves it
Chick-Fil-A owner =/= Chick-Fil-A franchise owner
The amount of industry actively opposing this in Washington is the reason we have plenty of freight trains and rail but very limited passenger transport. In fact, so much of America’s rail system is private that public transportation would have to either be serviced by the freight companies or would have to pay for second-tier access to the rail systems, after negotiating with a plethora of private rail companies.
Here is one of the most significant train lobbyist groups, you can see their priorities in the first main paragraph: increase freight and maintain privatization of rail.

I don’t think my problem is that self-driving cars are better or worse drivers, I think I have an issue with the fact that they are alpha-testing their product on streets that they may not be ready for. In the event of a collision, the car is going to drag someone around? That’s a pretty risky edge case to shrug off.
Also notable is that they are hiring for a Chief Safety Officer now.
You’ve read your last complementary article this month. The second Library of Alexandria doesn’t burn down, it gets locked behind a paywall.
Who pays the bills for these media companies? It’s not the masses who ingest their content mostly for free. It’s the advertisers that get to push their content along with the media content that keep the presses going, websites managed, production costs cleared.
Point aside, what’s reddit doing that taking three days off for health makes it impossible to meet deadlines? What exactly are they juggling in that accounting department that demands so much from a single employee? Sounds like she was overworked and overwhelmed from the start.
Sounds like they’re opposed to most forms of transportation
It’s actually the other way around. You have insurance? Let’s check with them, okay it looks like we need to put you on a mild antibiotic (for your potential stage 3 cancer after they denied proper coverage), you should see improvement in 3-6 months.

The paywalls restrict the flow of quality information, which happened before LLMs started scraping the web. If you don’t have money to spend on all of these news subscriptions you aren’t allowed to educate yourself. It’s class-based gatekeeping, plain and simple. They could tactfully include ads, but no one ever tactfully includes ads. They introduce pop-ups, fullscreen banners, interjections every 25 words, or the best is the articles that are just slide shows that take you through 30+ webpages.
Edit: I’d also like to point out that this article already has an ad at the beginning. So they are still making ad revenue even if they aren’t giving you complete access.
