I started the cable from the outlet and its currently the gray color (third from the left) and will have some parts that need to be shadowed shadowed with the fourth color from the left in the palette
After 15 hours of canvas being active we have finished the design for the instance (and c/godot is also complete over there as well)!

The fediverse canvas event is starting in a couple hours (event similar to r/place) and similar to last year I figured we can place the godot logo on it!
Canvas is an event where everyone can place a pixel every so often on a shared canvas. This can overwrite previously placed pixels which can lead to communities fighting for space on the canvas

I collected together all of the templates I could find for different groups (originally did this to see where I can expand the programming.dev template out to but figured other people might be interested so they can see where there wont be as much conflict for space

Some may be a pixel off but I tried to get things as close as possible (some of these are recreated since I couldnt get the source image from imgur or the source image is larger and was shrunk for the canvas with me not being able to replicate the shrink behaviour)

Canvas is happening in almost a day! This is an event similar to to r/place where everyone can place a pixel on a canvas every so often. Everyone has access to the same canvas meaning you can work together to construct art and wars can happen for territory leading to needing to defend things that get constructed

This is the second time the event is taking place. Ive attached an image of what our area looked like the first time it happened.
Last time canvas took place it was limited to only lemmy users due to limitations in the log in system. This time however its open to all fediverse users so there will probably be a lot more competition for space

Theres a design that will be getting made for programming.dev in general but if any communities want to organize something feel free to plan out something nearby or elsewhere on the canvas. Any help getting the programming.dev design built will also be really appreciated since then we will be able to expand out the design and get more communities represented in the community icons

Hey everyone! Theres an event upcoming for the fediverse in 1 week (you can see the countdown from this site: https://canvas.fediverse.events/). This is an event similar to place and ran by the toast.ooo instance
Everyone has access to a shared pixel art canvas and can place a new pixel every so often! Pixels placed onto the map color that pixel the color you choose which every person then sees. People often coordinate with things like templates to get art of different things onto the map.

Last year we participated and managed to get a pretty big zone for programming.dev. This year however will have much more participants than last year so need more support and help constructing our area. I'll be attempting to establish a technology zone on the canvas so if theres any instances or communities that have to do something with technology and want to do something feel free to reach out and we can help each other.

The current design for this year
Should start making some more blog posts on stacks as I come back to be active in the instance again. Took a large-ish break to focus on some game dev and now back to power through things.
I'm working on the frontend for it rather than the backend so I'll comment more about that
But a new project allows for way easier change of the base aspects. For example im currently working on a theme system thats allows for dynamic themes created at runtime as opposed to it needing to be built in. Also a components library. If this was added onto lemmy ui it would involve massacring the current structure of the UI to essentially make it a new project anyways
Originally was working on the stuff in a new UI on my own but I've merged that into what's happening with sublinks since they're making a new UI anyways as well and would let more of my UI changes to get connected up to the backend easily and shared across multiple frontends
In terms of technologies it also allows the federation code to be completely separated out from the api. Federation is currently its own project so it can be scaled separately and its made in go
Also allows for more organizational changes since we have more control over how the project is structured and the structure of how we talk to each other and decide on changes is different than how its done with lemmy (having a matrix space we talk to each other and there being weekly meetings as well)
Moderation tools is the first milestone after parity but theres also other milestones as well in terms of changes made that differentiates it from lemmy visible on our task board thats public on the github repo
Normal thats theres going to be multiple of the same type of software as people have different goals of what it should be and how it should be organized. Bevy and godot both exist in the open source gamedev space. Theres 7 misskey forks that all mostly aim to do different things but share the misskey api (and a lot of them also use the mastodon api). One of which (iceshrimp) is currently having a rewrite to change the tech stack and make it easier for them to add features
Its based on what instances report. So instances on 0.19 or above would factor in votes into that number. Ones that arent would not (so the number has a combination of both cases)
Ill start off with sharing my results. Top communities is dominated by programming.dev since thats what im the admin of
if it has actual content that relates to the community then its allowed
if its paywalled though or doesnt relate to programming then can be removed (programming in a general term since this was voted to be a collector community for all programming content in the instance)

It depends on what is being called activity
The standard (I say standard but its really just the thing most sites use since it boosts their numbers) that social media uses for monthly active users is to do people who have logged in. This is what mastodon uses as well
While they aren't actively contributing content they are still actively using the site (active account as opposed to dead account)
I think lemmy should match up to the mastodon and other social media calculations so these comparisons actually make sense otherwise were just making lemmy feel dead by calling a different calculation MAU than what people are used to and since both calculations are being compared like they're equal
I changed the algorithms in programming.dev to take into account voters in the activity. Since stats are all calculated locally you can view any community from programming.dev to get the monthly active users including that change
e.g. https://programming.dev/c/technology@lemmy.world shows 27.8k users/month on p.d which is almost as much as the value here for all of lemmy excluding voters
yep, you can do them anytime after theyre unlocked and you dont have to do all of them
