Well I would guess most people are only acquainted with the surface details of the issue. Certainly it's easy to think "guns kill*, let's have less of that please." But of course the actual legal details are far more nuanced: The 2nd amendment, definitions of what exactly is a firearm, uppers/lowers/etc. *(I know guns don't kill, people use them to kill)

I do wonder if some opposition to the term assault rifle stems from the "not one concession" interpretation of the 2nd amendment? The reaction to its use shuts down a thread or conversation.

Personally I am anti gun, but unless a new amendment is passed, I don't see anything changing.

Each one of those features I mentioned is a lot of work. I don't want to just throw ideas out and expect them to magically happen!

I haven't looked at the Lemmy codebase. Are there plans for an API or extension framework? That could allow other devs to implement features while the core devs focus on performance and security.

I'm not sure what they use. They block discord, which is annoying because some open source projects use it for questions and issues.

Yes, nix is fantastic and I need to figure out the setup vs my current one. On a new system, would it be more straightforward to clone my repo, and then use nix, or just keep what I have? More of a rhetorical question there, I need to compare nix and homebrew based methods again (last time was like 2 years ago)

There's also the issue of nix darwin creating a partition, which the enterprise security department didn't like me to do last time. Which is ridiculous, I agree! Plus homebrew is "approved" while nix is an unknown to our enterprise IT. They often block stuff in the name of security, I'd hate for nix to get halfway through setup and break.
