I was aimlessly swimming underwater in the deep end of a backyard pool when I saw an infant on the bottom, next to one of the side walls. I grabbed it, rushed it to the surface, and sat it on the edge. Her parents quickly came running. The kid was fine. It seems she instinctively held her breath once submerged and wasn't under very long. The parents weren't watching (they were in lawn chairs 10-20 feet away) and nobody really knows how long she was under. I'm still struck by the parents' neglect. Also that the kid had no buoyancy and sank like a stone.

Cool Hand Luke but for Flock cameras, not parking meters.

Agree with earlier comments that intentionally failing to mention a relevant truth (when one has an opportunity, when the relevant truth has not already been raised by others, etc.) can be an intention to deceive. But if we define "lie by omission" more broadly to include the failure to utter truths, then the only way to avoid it is to know everything, talk constantly, and approach infinite full disclosure by finite steps.

Is there any way to switch from dark mode to light mode in Lemmy? I don't see an option for that in settings, and the quickstart guide is silent about it. Am I missing something or am I doomed to dark mode?
