This fell a little flat for me. This seems like a case of someone having accidentally guided their algorithm to the most common denominator which typically leads to rage bait or sensationalism. I've seen just as much positive content about Korea as I have critical content. Furthermore neither seems extremely out of balance with similar content regarding other countries. But again maybe I interact with YouTube in a away the hasn't pigeonholed me into some echo chamber or sensationalist algorithm. With the exception of maybe content regarding the US which skews more negative.

Note the text below was based on the assumption this was a natural lake. Please see the reply comments below providing further clarification. The homeowner cleaning up his shorelines is a drop in the bucket compared to the fact that an entire swamp was replaced with an artificial lake. Leaving my original comment intact for posterity inspire of it being incorrect in this context.

I think the problem is that this is NOT the natural state of this specific shoreline. If being left alone resulted in trees and grass growing then a sandy "beach" shoreline is not in balance with the local ecosystem. Trimming the grass and clearing a small path for access would have been okay but nuking that span of shoreline has now introduced significant erosion risk. Grasses, shurbs, and roots play an important role in preventing erosion. Maybe the 50-100m stretch won't be a big deal in the long run but if all the homes in the area follow suit then long term large scale problems will arise. Even still at a small scale, I can already see how close this shoreline is to their home. They have eliminated a decent bit of erosion preventing vegetation that served as a buffer from the back yard of their homes. A few seasons of high and low tide cycles will, at best wash away their "pretty walking area", and at worst undermine the stability of the soil near the building foundation. There is no easy "undo" for the damage they have done, the closest thing is artificial erosion preventative measures which will be concrete, metal, or some other manufactured system that will be much more of an eye soar then the original condition they apparently hated so much.

Some personal insight having spoke to many people in the country. The article is really underplaying the bad condition of Addis Ababa's electric grid. Many people that live near the heart of the city still face multi-day blackouts. Anything outside of a few special tourist, hotel, and government office areas is constantly dealing with power issues.

A lot of it stems from the current administration's policies and priorities where a large swath of the citizen suffer for the sake of tourism and marketing Addis as the "Dubai of Africa". I fear this means that even the new dam coming into operation will not solve it's problems. The wage gap there is even more extreme and I fear this electric car push will further divide that gap.

In a nation with countless local chains and small coffee shops I'm still amazed that Starbucks survives there. Erican marketing really did do a number... I guess it also helps that the Chung who fired the CEO seems to be a MAGA aficionado

Maybe a slight misunderstanding.... If everyone in the WORLD lived the way people do in the US then we need 5.1 earths. If everyone in the WORLD lived the way people do in India then we would need less. Makes sense to me.

Fun maybe, easy not so much. I would say I have intermediate level knowledge but it was significant effort to setup a home server and then germinification to work reliably. I would still recommend it but would caveat it by said it's a small challenge even just to setup locally. I would NOT recommend it for beginners trying to have remote access.

However the new rules set by the current administration is also significantly devaluing those credits. Furthermore other EV manufacturers and traditional auto maker who now also sell EVs are chipping away at the value AND demand for those credits. Relevant article
