Not sure but that sounds like you have a problem with your Git installation (or a dependency of Git). Maybe a reinstallation can solve that.

I think single account ActivityPub implementations are addressing a weakness of the Fediverse: one's identity (handle, username) is tied to an instance they have no control over. If that instance shuts down users lose everything. With a single account instance, you take that control back. And since it doesn't need to scale the architecture can be much simpler and can be deployed to much cheaper infrastructure.

The demo was not straightforward, though. And I didn't quite get how a user can follow Mastodon users, for example.

The first time I saw that prompt, I thought the same. "I don't want to cancel the install, I want to install it." You get used to it, but I don't think this is a very good UX.

In 2014 Robert Martin claimed that number of developers doubles every 5 years and says:

I cannot answer the technical question as I don't have enough experience with that. But I think sites like reddit mostly don't care about search. They probably think: "People can use google if they want to search."

Same here. I see the text, but it's not a button. When I search for "books", I only get posts listed and no communities.

Update: In the community search I also get an error that says "couldnt_find_object"

Update 3: It's weirder than that: When I follow "Communities" at the top, select "All" and click on the link of a community I haven't subscribed, then I see the button. But when I follow the link from within this post, the button disappears. The URLs in both cases are the same. Is there may be some referral logic that doesn't work well with links?

We cannot speak to Red Hat’s intentions, and can only point to the things they have said publicly. We have had an incredible working relationship with Red Hat through the life of AlmaLinux OS and we hope to see that continue.

The answer is "yes". IBM is being IBM. They bought CentOS and hoped that would be the end of it, but then Rocky and Alma appeared. I don't know why they didn't foresee this happening.
