VIGILANTE 8

Twisted Metal is getting the Halo treatment with a "we pulled the sets and costumes out of a cancelled CW show", so now would be the time to reboot the underdog battle car arena game.

343 cant make Halo cause Microsoft wants Halo The Product, not Halo The Game.

They dont want couches of happy people playing Blood Gulch, they want preorders and that "marketing moment" they got with Halo 2 and 3. They dont care about the franchise as a thing to be enjoyed, they only understand it as the thing that can be sold, and it shows.

343 devs have gone on record saying the rework of the core game and the stagnant development was due to MS saying "no, thats TOO Halo, you have to make the NEW THING." And thus we get clusterfuck stories, reworked weapons for no reason (seriously, ANOTHER new pistol and they get rid of the SHOTGUN?), ziplines pulled from Apex Legends and more out of game marketing collabs than in game content. Oh and a shit TV show that Neil Blomkamp shouldve gotten greenlit to make 10 fucking years ago.

Also the PC port of Infinite is trash. You cant give any player input without the frame rate going bananas. Stand still and I get 60 FPS, any motion its 5.

Ad revenue was the Pandora's Shit Box that has opened up the fall of capitalism. Can i just watch ads all day while i work my shit job instead so I can have a fucking life, Mr Corporation?

Impossible. You can only deter and mitigate risk. But war is in our nature. War is uniquely human because it requires at least one civilization to wage.

The only way to stop war on Earth is to convince everyone here to go to war somewhere else.

So my plan is to militarize the school systems, manual military or scientific service at 18, create a federated republic under an international parliament, nationalize systems and get away from "profit" in exchange for progress, and go to war with the unknown to find "God" or whatever. Everyone who cant/wont can get UBI and healthcare and education a plenty, create art to their hearts content and do the "culture" thing.

Guten tag Hans, we need better transmission and Schlachtschiffkanone.

The classics like Super Metroid, Turtles In Time, F-Zero and Link to the Past are always on rotation but I always love to pop on Cybernator (aka Assault Suits Valken) for a good run and gun mech time. Time Trax is another one not mentioned often but is nostalgic for me.

Bold of you to assume I am buying anything in this economy.

[–] chainsawrobot@kbin.social 12 points 1 year ago

Imagine an encyclopedia.

Now imagine I own the encyclopedia, and Walmart offers me money.

So i paste Walmart's Xmas catalogue pages in between the useful information in the encyclopedia. You ask about frog facts, you get frog pajamas. You try to look up cultural information and get travel ticket prices. You never planned on purchasing anything, and you are too poor too anyway. But somehow I and Walmart make money off of your displeasure.

This is ad revenue. This is the modern economy. Its a sham. Its an infinite money go brrrttt machine for billionaires.

Enshitification.

purely to confuse NASA scientists

Ah then it is simple: we place an ESA spacecraft there.

Ive used Lubuntu on old machines in the age range OP is asking and its great. Turns a 2011 Macbook into a functional machine, had what felt like out-of-the-box performance.

That being said, the best performance gains from laptops can honestly just be a good cleaning. Cat hair and dust in machines that are hot day 1 can add up and send your CPU into "please help me" mode.

Preface: I am not an engineer. I am not a software guy. But I play games and use websites, and have since i was 8.

If you make the website usable, people will use it.

Reddit and Twitter had a symbiotic dichotomy where they were the embodiment of "causal brainfarts and reactions" vs "long thoughts and thorough argument". One tweet with an exclamation and some emojis, vs a 7 paragraph breakdown or tutorial in a technical subreddit with hyperlinked sources. Both platforms had just enough to give what people needed in an easy to digest manner.

Kbin (and by extension the Fediverse, which I still do not understand after using this website for a week) just doesnt have that easy to drop in rabbit hole experience that these major platforms do. BUT IT CAN.

But right now pictures are smooshed and theres still huge empty space. It feels old, theres weird bugs like the UI flashing light mode on refresh, and other problems that make a user go "ick".

Fill my screen with content and let me touch it, interact with it, react to it, let me repost it, let me subscribe to that community or user, and maybe preview THEIR feed or posts so I can get MORE content.

The major companies are at a plateau and know they have to start farming our clicks: thats why we see trends like Tiktok's "knock on the screen to keep engagement" or "satisfying" videos pasted together with political opinions. Its why every company refuses to innovate while maintaining they deserve more money when they are already the monopolistic hegemony. If kbin can provide a more honest, more personal, more legitimate content sharing experience anonymously, it can explode into the new "front page" as reddit likes to call themselves.

I really like the idea of an integrated Twitter/Reddit alternative, that shares content across "front ends" like Mastodon and reformats information to be readable based on the users preferences. If we (and by we I mean you, the coder who can actually help this open source project) can come up with a design ideology that fosters curiosity, and enables connections, instead of force feeding you ads and sponsored content, that will be the future.

Im really, really hoping the internet heals from this huge burning that Elon and Spez have put on us. I know it can be done.

EDIT: i want kbin to the the place where Iranian women go to be heard. We should strive to be a platform for sharing an education. For connection, not profit, and not propaganda either. #womenlifefreedom #slavaukraini #freepalestine #fucktheccp #beexcellenttoeachother

EDIT2: also NOTIFICATION?! like there is no indication when i go to kbin that this post has any interaction. I have to manually go to the post.
