I have to ask, do you have any evidence to show that she's only receiving coverage because of her skin colour? As Dimand said, Hadi Nazari received far more coverage than this.

This is a sad reminder that when bushwalking the weather and environment can change rapidly. If you're going to be solo hiking (or even hiking in a group) to bring a personal locator beacon and first aid kit even if you're familiar with the area you're hiking in.

You can hire them for a relatively cheap price from plenty of places and they don't even take up much room! In the past I've hired them from the Blue Mountains Police and Macpac at Town Hall.

Addit: I should also add that it's important to dress for all seasons when hiking. Especially in winter. Dressing in layers and ensuring you have a hard shell layer to stop wind chill and rain/snow.

I'd say it's less about the ethnicity and more in relation to how young and rare this event is as Dimand said. It's likely gained popularity because people were hoping to find them alive.

So reading the ABS website they could have contacted the ABS to ask for a separate census form or should have filled it out prior to the 11th of August if they knew where they would be on the 11th.

You can find the information here.

Reckon the local council should issue a littering fine to the responsible organisations!

I think you touch on a really good point. If the federal government was to use its powers like a cudgel to force compliance of the states it also creates a single point of failure if you have a change of government. We should be looking at building legislation at both the federal and state level synergistically.

Tangentially, look at the damage Roe V Wade has caused by being overturned. From how I've understood it the federal (and some state governments) have basically relied on the supreme court decision instead of building proper legislation to protect abortion.

From what I can tell from an admittedly brief search for more information is that if the federal government was to federally criminalise conversion therapy a legal challenge could be mounted by state governments as federal criminal law normally in relation to crime that crosses state borders (i.e. drug trafficking) and might be seen as federal overreach. (Though during my reading apparently the federal government has overridden state laws before; namely overriding Tasmanian sodomy laws so maybe it could be done)

Private school funding on the other hand I'm not as certain about. I don't know if the Act that details how funding for non-government schools is dispensed allows the federal government to place restrictions on funding based on discriminatory practices in these schools. It might be something that needs to be done on a state level.

I really want to play this again but I don't think I'll emotionally survive Midna's lament again! The music in Twilight Princess was amazing! The Hyrule Castle theme slowly morphing into Ganondorf's theme still gives me shivers.

Completely agree but sadly even if the war was to stop tomorrow the shut down of oil producing and refining facilities means that there will be a shortage for the next 6 months (apologies for not having a reference. I can't find the statement which I think was made by the IEA but will add it if I can).

Hopefully the state and federal governments will start pushing for more subsidies for public transport.

I don't normally wade into these threads because they're normally very emotionally charged but discrediting people cause they no longer live in the country of question denies displaced communities a voice.

Your statement would mean refugees or individuals who had the funds to legally (or illegally) escape from places like Syria under the Assad regime should be ignored as they don't live in the country (roughly 6.2 million refugees or displaced individuals from as early as 2011).

While we should always take care when taking statements from any individual or group at face value and we should always complement them with a wide range of research from various sources we should never discredit someone's voice because of something as arbitrary as not living in a country anymore.

This is a real step backwards, we all know that cage raised lobbyists have a far worse quality of life. I would beseech the government to rethink this approach for their wellbeing

Using the title that the ABC has used but the important part I think is the announcement of $87 million in helping support survivors in redress, family tracing, and trauma-informed care.

Don't know if it's already been posted, happy for mods to delete if it's already posted somewhere else!

Interesting reading the article. Would be good to see the complete ACCC report.
