In March 2025 I posted in r/BuyFromEU about my journey of switching from US apps to European alternatives. One line in that post said: "Microsoft To Do --> Structured (Germany)"
Structured didn't stick. Super Productivity didn't stick. Lunatask, Superlist and Vikunja didn't stick either. I wanted the simple list that Wunderlist used to be (not tailored for businesses or teams, not overloaded by features I don't need), made and hosted in Europe, with no subscription. I couldn't find it, so I built it myself. It's called OmmiQ: https://ommiq.com/
What it is:
- A to-do list and day planner: inbox, today, scheduled and category pages.
- Free. Technically you don't need anything else, but I do offer optional extras (like a week view or push reminders) that are one-time purchases. No subscription.
- No trackers, no ads, no analytics. Check it yourself. The site loads only from its own domain.
- GDPR is the baseline, and you can export all your data any time.
- Hosted by Hostinger (Lithuania, servers are located in Germany). Payments are made through Mollie (Netherlands).
- Supports 6 languages (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese) and is built to meet EU accessibility rules (WCAG 2.2 AA).
- Easy switch from other to-do apps like Todoist, TickTick, Google Tasks, Microsoft To Do, Asana, Trello and OmniFocus by importing your tasks from them.
It's a web app you can install on your phone or laptop straight from the browser (PWA). No Google Play Store, no Apple App Store, no Google or Apple account needed, and neither of them takes a cut.
It's still small: 57 people use it and 5 have bought 16 extras. Most buyers found it on goeuropean.org. OmmiQ is actively being developed and I keep adding features without making the core more complex.
If you moved away from your current to-do app: what do you miss most? That's what I want to build next.
Disclaimer: I built OmmiQ and it's my company.
Thank you, I indeed spent quite some time on brushing up the UI. Regarding the source, it isn't public. It's a business, and the one-time optional extras pay for it. Nonetheless, if self-hosting is a hard requirement, I would agree that Super Productivity or Vikunja are better choices. I tried them myself and they work pretty well. If you have improvements in mind, I'm happy to hear them!
