Do you know Fediverse bots/accounts boosting posts in other languages than English?
My personal feed is heavily English-centred, I’d like to possibly get posts in other languages and have a wider perspective

Salt domes (www.foxyhole.io)

Salt domes
I don’t know if this is common knowledge.
Basically, underground in the deep of the Earth crust there is often a layer of salt rock, formed when salted water basins evaporated multiple times and get buried by sediments, slowly sinking into the crust due to tectonic activity.
Well, since salt rock has a much lower density than the surrounding rocks, it behaves exactly as a liquid. All around the globe, from the salt layer, immense bubbles and columns of salt called diapirs slowly move upwards, much like magma does, passing through layers of rock and bending them.
Where the bended layers touch the salt diapir some cavities form, making place to petroleum and natural gas to concentrate. On the surface, the bending of the rock layers is detectable through formations like hills but also depressions, created by the subsiding of the hill or by corrosion action by elements.
Where salt domes are found, humans open salt mines and build drilling plants to extract the underground hydrocarbons.

Please note that salt domes are a lot, like if the underground salt basins around the world “boiled” through the crust. If you look up the Zagro mountains in Iran and look at the southernmost part, you can easily spot from the satellite dozens of circular hills all of similar size, some of all even show so-called salt glaciers originated by salt coming out from the crust. Those are all salt diapers pushing the crust and creating hills, and even islands in the Persian Gulf

@baronvonj@lemmy.world as far as I know, that number shows the number of shares. It is not an indication that you are seeing that post because it was boosted tho.
The thing is, if I follow a user and that user boosts a post from someone I’m not following, that post is supposed to show up in my TL, in the same way as any other Fediverse platform. However that doesn’t happen. I tested it: on Pixelfed home TL you only see posts from users you follow, you don’t see boosts of posts made by users you’re not following. And since the purpose of boosting is to let you know new people, that’s a really big bummer

Currently, can you see #boosts on your #Pixelfed timeline?
On Pixelfed.social and other instances it seems like boosts are hidden. So you can share posts in Pixelfed and users using softwares like Mastodon or Misskey will see your boost, but from Pixelfed you won’t see them both from Pixelfed users and Fediverse users, and regardless if you activated them in the settings or use a different client. There are no official news about it so I’m trying to understand if this has something to do with Pixelfed as a software, with specific instances or specific accounts

@3dmvr@lemm.ee well this is a post from a Sharkey instance, I see your post because I follow this community (which appears to me as a user boosting lemmy posts)
Also I’ve already posted on lemmy directly from my instance, I just have to tag the community I want to post into, and I receive replies as well.
It’s not perfect but it’s extremely helpful and cool

@oreteau@lemmy.world cold brew stays fresh and good for days, I’d say a week at least, I guess you would probably need to worry about the safety factor before the flavour. However in the summer I usually make 1 liter and it get consumed in 4/5 days, but I think it can last more. Of course you need to keep the jar well sealed.
Note that after little time a thin white film starts forming on the surface. That’s totally normal and you shouldn’t worry about it, it is not mold (as it should need much more time to form) but some water and coffee minerals and residuals concentrating on top. It’s not aesthetically appealing but it’s totally safe.

Do you know roasteries that sell decaf coffee beans?
I’d like to brew coffee more often, occasionally in the evening, but I can’t because of caffeine, also I know people who definitely feel much worse effect I would be glad to offer a good pour over to sometimes, so I’m looking for some websites which sell a decent selection of decaf beans, preferably treated with the Swiss water process. Also I live in Italy so due to recent events it would much more convenient to buy from European sources

Meglio abbonarsi a Wired o Wired Italia?
Avrei voglia di abbonarmi alla rivista, inclusa quella cartacea, ma l’edizione USA ha un costo molto più alto di quella italiana, quindi mi viene il dubbio che la seconda sia più scarna di contenuti

@actionjbone@sh.itjust.works If I stick to the Porlex the tall could be my next step. The Mini is handy until you need to brew two cups or a liter of cold brew 🙃

[–] fdrc_ff@www.foxyhole.io 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

@Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works Actually I literally just did it after tasting a V60 coffee in a local cafe. I got a 150g bag of the same coffee (a really good Colombian) and I managed to obtain a cup almost as good as the one they served me, even if I'm using a stovetop kettle without termometer.
However my main doubt is about the setting of the grinder, mainly because I can calculate how many steps it needs to obtain a theorically correct size of the ground, however I mostly end up looking for instructions online and finding the right setting by trying

What is your expeience with the Porlex Mini II manual grinder?
It's the only grinder I've ever used, I find it quite handy and consistent in the grinding but I have actually no benchmark to judge it objectively. Is it actually good?
