So I’ve seen all kinds of dashboards depicting all sorts of informations and functions to control ones home and I was wondering, what things you have depicted on yours which turned out to be really useful esp. for other family members. I would like to keep mine as small and simple as possible. So far I have planned to show the following:

Helpful esp. before leaving the house:

  • turn off all lights
  • activate alarm within n minutes
  • current and upcoming rain and outside temperature conditions
  • List of open windows and doors

Helpful during the day

  • Current and set temperature inside
  • Autonomy of car
  • Remaining time of washing machine
  • State of dishwasher (ready, running, done)
  • State of mailbox (empty, full)

What’s on yours you and others in your household interact often with? Which have you removed?

Meshtastic is one. It requires nodes you connect your self to with Bluetooth. Your mobile is the UI then. Nodes use 868Mhz and connect to each other in ranges between 10-20km. Building an own node costs about 70-90€. Check out https://meshmap.net/ to find one nearby.

Freifunk is another, which uses wifi only. It has entry/exit points to the internet on every node (but not required), using VPN tunnels to obscure the clients identity. Nodes can be linked to another in order to create a mesh network. I don’t know how popular this technology is outside Germany. https://freifunk.net/

Official docs say the watch should not be cleaned with soap, so I try to stick with that (although many others do).

I clean mine with warm water, hand soap and a small nailbrush, getting about 80% of the dirt off. But I’d like to have them spotlessly clean, as in 95%. Is this possible? What methods do ye use?

As a former product owner I initiated family retrospectives after smaller or larger events like holidays, stadium visits, changing family bank accounts, moving, etc. We discus what we found went really good or bad and what we need to look out for next time and note everything.

This might be a stupid question, but here goes anyway. Why not install Ubuntu server without proxmox and run docker and Portainer the way you described it?

My watch started vibrating and I noticed this spacy animation. It disappeared after about 15-20 seconds. This happened while sitting on the couch doing nothing. My iPhone was about a meter away. My SO sitting next to me, also about a meter away.

Had a leak under the sink in our kitchen. I don’t want to imagine what this would have meant on a larger scale, compared the 20€ I spent on the sensor and the 10mins it costed me to install it.

Ich habe jetzt schon ein paar mal gelesen, es wäre für die Laufzeit der Batterie dienlich, sie nicht immer bis 100% zu laden. Nun habe ich mir die Frage gestellt, ob die Hersteller das nicht schon berücksichtigt haben. Wissen wir das für bestimmte Hersteller? Dann wäre dieses Handeln ja unnötig.

What are your use cases when using this feature of your Apple Watch? I have the feeling I’m missing out on something. Sure, I use it occasionally for taking group pictures. But that’s about it. But I have the feeling, there are more opportunities for using this feature. What are yours?
