Yeah I guess I should have been more specific with the post title because I don't think nicotine patches are nearly as addictive as cigarettes.

Yes. They haven't been effective at all for managing my symptoms.

I figured I'd post this in the Toronto instance because people living here would understand my dilemma a bit better.

I'm currently WFH doing L1 help desk work.

I had ended up homeless at one point and could not finish my education. Now that I'm mostly stable I've been thinking about going to college, which I think is especially important in Canada because >58% of people have a college or university credential.

Option 1: I finish my computer networking diploma part-time. Would take me a year.

Option 2: I forgo my education for a bit and attain the CCNA while looking for opportunities to leave helpdesk.

Option 3: I start an online degree like WGU/Athabasca and graduate in 4 years

I think I'm supposed to finish my diploma, but it would take me 3 years to finish a 2 year diploma. The choice seems really obvious but I'm at a loss. I don't want to remain uneducated but it's hard for me to find the time or money to commit to full time schooling. Hope this post made sense.

It's an Intel whitebook, can't find much in the way of disassembly videos or docs. You definitely can though

I'd consider a thinkpad t590 if it had a dGPU, but a laptop with a GTX 1660 Ti priced at $300 is an insane price even if it doesn't come with ram or a hard drive. If I had them install everything then it would cost only $400

I'm homeless (working on it, have a few interviews coming up) and I noticed that there was a mutual aid community located in hexbear. Do I need to make another account or can I use this one to make a post there? Also if there's a loan/borrow community let me know.

I'm homeless and living in a shelter. I had recently attained a remote WFH tech support job which was perfect because I wouldn't have to pay for transportation and they were providing me with the equipment I needed. I was sent a PC and monitor and I had tried setting it up in a semi obscured place in the shelter but the supervisor there informed me that I couldn't continue to work this way because "they don't know what I'm doing on it" which is a load of shit imo because they don't know what anyone is doing on the internet.

I had to be connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable. I tried:

  • going to the library (inaccessible router)
  • going to a cafe
  • going to a local college (company blocked captive portal)
  • using a travel router (company literally blocked the connection once I set it up, called coworkers and they said the same thing)

I was finally able to find someone who was offering a private room just for work but by the time I was set up I had already received a notice of termination in my email.

I'm beyond furious at the shelter staff and I don't know what I could have done to prevent myself from getting fired. I was to move into a place next week contingent on me keeping the job and getting my first paycheck but I had to contact my would be landlord yesterday to let him know that I can't move in. I keep replaying this scenario and I don't know what I could have done to not get fired. I guess I'll go fuck myself.
