It doesn't top out below 144Hz. There are benefits with diminishing returns up to at least 1000Hz especially for sample-and-hold displays (like all modern LCD/OLED monitors). 240Hz looks noticeably smoother than 144Hz, and 360Hz looks noticeably smoother than 240Hz. It gets around port forwarding/firewall issues that most people don't know how to deal with. But putting it behind a paywall kinda kills any chance of it being a benevolent feature.

It's certainly not as if anyone is entitled to anything better. It's just bad practice. I wouldn't want people critiquing me based on the work I do for free either, though.

Per the prime number theorem, for large enough N the proportion of primes less than or equal to N is approximately 1/log(N). For N = 2^(31) that's ~0.0465. To get under 1% you'd need N ~ 2^(145).

I don't care what you prefer. But:

Dark mode just doesn't make sense for professionals.

Come on.

I use a dark, low contrast theme and work in a nearly unlit room with my monitors on nearly minimum brightness. It's comfortable and totally efficient. I understand wanting to switch to bright mode and use higher contrast when reading unfamiliar material, but code is not that. It is highly structured, repetitive (syntactically) and organized. So you can usually have a clear idea of what you're looking at without relying much on visual details.
