Just highlighting the difference between the government that protects its people and a government that throws a political circus. And at the same time, I showed where they could get the funding to do so, since lack of funding is made the excuse too often.
The political system is highly intertwined and it's often just a matter of looking for the strings you'd like to connect. Sure I'm trying to paint a picture here since I don't believe these people and others deserve to be targets of such pointless crime.

I see. Fortunately, friendship at the jobs I've had never proved to be an issue. I guess because my work is highly collaborative, this is often a natural outcome.
I'm thankful for having the luxury to choose my workplaces and I would never pick a place that expects me to leave my life at the door. Of course though, I respect my colleagues who wish to do so but I have found that very few of them wish for a strictly professional relationship.

I code across multiple systems, particularly Windows and Linux. A lot of data involved. These encoding issues are rare. Granted, I'm more on the backend of things and more numerical-data driven. I'd expect a completely different set of headaches for web dev and such. But that just highlights the issue I have with the claim that every programmer must know this. Hence why the comment about taking it with a grain of salt.
I have seen a lot of people interested in learning but get turned away by this level of complexity. This imo is unnecessary. Programming is first and foremost about logic, this level of in-depth knowledge requirement is what we have been doing away with in higher-level programming languages.

Some specific legislations then? Would be worth pointing them out. I'm no expert in the topic and I doubt most people here are. Your statement makes you seem against legislating it at all.
