Not realizing you weren't from NZ at first, I sort of thought you were someone who has hallucinations talking about droves of pigs.

It's the same quality as The Warehouse but sometimes has better designs. I'd estimate it's about 5% cheaper.
Really depends on the item though. Eg Kmart is better than Warehouse for Crayola products, rip off versions of American Girl dolls, those storage bags you suck the air out of. The Warehouse is better than Kmart for sheets, tents and chocolate. Both of them are terrible for shoes but kmart is ok for slippers and Warewhare is better for fake crocs.
it just doesn’t line up with how the world works.
It really does though. We've seen it for years. New Zealand is wildly underinvested in productive assets and we have an eyewatering level of private household debt. This is because residential real estate is heavily used as a store of value and source of capital gain.
Expecting New Zealanders to stop hoarding housing stock is like expecting Indian housewives to stop buying up gold jewellery.
I'm writing this from a town where over a third of houses stand empty on census night while local families live in all kinds of shitty "gottages". The demand and supply are both here.
Historically the NZ market was never big enough to support a public service broadcasting model tv channel, particularly one that could still provide the overseas content New Zealanders wanted to see.
I think the closest we've come to that is Maori television, but its news abilities were defanged under Pita Sharples when corporate iwi objected to investigative journalism around kohanga reo.
Be interesting to try it though.
RNZ has the sword of Damocles over it most of the time.
I'm a bit out of the loop but I think this means the only local television news not owned by the NZ government will be pay to view.
Getting a car into the doctor seems to be as hard as getting a person into the doctor.
With cars you need to use even more lube!
Sorry, couldn't help it.
Edit but seriously though I'm not looking forward to when these cars get old enough to be the ones I buy. Having a computer all through your car sounds like a nightmare. The less of that stuff, the better.
Hey, I wonder if one day they make dumbcars again like the new 5g dumbphones.
As someone who is glass half full I'm looking forward to the influx of high-density Air BnBs in outer suburbs for me to stay in if I have a health appointment in the city.
I'd rather more people got to live in them though.
Yeah it's an abuse of urgency. From memory this started under Helen Clark and happens more and more. We really need more robust protections against it.
There's nothing urgent about this.
So would I. Hopefully I'll get well enough soon and do some!!!
Unfortunately I have a covid vax next month so that will probably make me out for a few weeks but who knows.
It seems likely to me that he's arguing for publicly funded media though. He's from a generation that grew up with way more public service broadcasting than we see today.
But the gist of this is just "I told you so".
