I wonder if your lemmy instance needs the latest update installed. I know that I had missing subscriptions in Memmy until the devs for lemmy.ml installed the update yesterday.

I am seeing that same issue as you are with your first bullet point, unable to set the default sort to New in Content Settings. It almost looks like Cancel and New we’re swapped in the available options in the list which is causing the error for me.
I’m not experiencing your second issue though. My subscriptions do show.
Quite a noticeable performance difference with this update over the last several hours. Good stuff 👍
I think that’s an great suggestion. 
New feed with standard height posts looks much better and scrolling seems smoother 👍
Is long press to share on posts new in this release? I don’t remember that in prior releases.
That and haptic feedback would be awesome additions.
