Abundance by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. My understanding is that it is a woefully misunderstood book, and that people keep getting angry with the content without understanding it (or worse, without reading it).

So far, I actually really like it just a handful of chapters in. I think they make incredibly salient points and have very convincing rationales.

We get a meal delivery service each week and they use the giant ice packs. So I've taken to just keeping two or three in my freezer and then sleeping with a pack at my feet each night or carrying it in the car while I do errands. And I get fresh ones delivered each week. A nice way to recycle the packs

I'm desperate for better type checking in Python, and part of that is speed. So I'm very interested in these options

I recently started using uv based on a recommendation in another thread so I'll probably give ty a whirl sometime soon

For the most part, Crypto assets have no real value. They can be used as a currency, but that's infrequent at this point, and really it's now just a speculative asset.

In other words, Ethereum's (and other Cryptos) value is based almost entirely upon how much people think someone else will pay in the future.

If they think the price will go up, then they will buy. If they think the price will go down, then they will sell.

Because of this, any shred of evidence that could predict the perceived value going up or down can cause a huge shift in the market. Most likely a news article was released, or someone Tweeted something, that made people think the price could change.

I'm leaning the science behind home electricity. I want to install an outlet in my bathroom for a bidet but I realized I didn't understand when and where I needed a GFI outlet. So I'm learning via a handful of books

Similarly, I want to add another outlet in the basement for my cats' automatic litter box.

I also just replaced my Nest doorbell with a "dumb" doorbell but the chime won't work. So I need to do some research on how the chimes work...

My guy take it down a notch, damn. I'm not calling for his head on a pike, I have legitimate and valid criticisms. I apologize if the tone came off more critical than I meant it but hot hell you came in spicy.

But, to address your issue:

Why does one wrong make a right? Why does him exposing the issue invalidate any criticisms or expectations of quality or integrity? To me it does not, hence why I criticize. And I even said I was glad the information is coming to light, and I'm grateful for him drawing attention to it, I just wish it could have been done a little more tactfully is all. I would like to have all the information right now, rather than waiting for a "part 2".

I also just don't appreciate the stoking of anger, which has clearly worked. Ragebait is toxic and that's what is being done with this story, from my perspective, so I don't love it.

I have one in my garage and you'd better believe I'm going to inspect it now

Just checked this site out and it looks pretty superb on the surface. Each candidate has links to the sites and social media, their experiences and stances are aggregated there and there's an option to contribute more information.

The true test will be to see how it handles extremely local candidates like the school board, which I struggled to find information on in the last election.

Boy this is... Something else

Sucking on my tongue. Apparently it's genetic or passed down, but when I'm very content I will let my tongue go slack and then suck on it to create a light vacuum, causing it to fill my mouth a bit.

It is hard to describe, but to be clear I'm not sucking it into my throat. It actually moves against my teeth because of the vacuum

I do trust it well enough, but I don't use it.

For starters, I don't want it to be too easy to spend money. If I want something, I should want it enough to pull my card out and type the number again.

Second, the auto-fill often doesn't work perfectly, so you need the card anyway.

Third, there's the slim chance it could be hacked. So why even take that chance when the only benefit is convenience

Plus, I doubt two things:

  1. I don't think U.S. Justice system would prefer you to shoot people over a non-violent result
  2. I don't think the victim went through the mental process of "I'll get in more trouble if I don't shoot this guy, so I'd better just ice him"

Victim had a gun and so their first idea was to use the gun
