It is not a full replacement - but they are aiming for

Our current target is to build a drop-in replacement for all common use cases of sudo.

They are dropping support for some of the older/niche features/settings and now ignore some of the config you used to be able to do.

Some parts of the original sudo are explicitly not in scope. Sudo has a large and rich history and some of the features available in the original sudo implementation are largely unused or only available for legacy platforms. In order to determine which features make it we both consider whether the feature is relevant for modern systems, and whether it will receive at very least decent usage. Finally, of course, a feature should not compromise the safety of the whole program.

But generally for all common use cases it should just be a drop in replacement.

Every OS has paper cuts. You learn to live with them over time as you have no other choice. When you switch OS it cuts in different ways and they feel fresher then the old ones you had gotten used to over time. It does not matter if you switch from Windows to Linux, Linux to Windows or to or from MacOS. They all have papercuts.

I said editor, not an OS that lacks a decent editor :)

But there are more numbers between 0 and 1 then there are whole numbers. So are the countable many angles or uncountably many?

Clean orphaned dependencies: sudo pacman -Rs $(pacman -Qtdq)

In addition to this, or rather before, you can run pacman -D --asdeps package_name to mark a package as a dep. If it is no longer required by something else it will be removed with the above. This can be useful for things that are deps that you installed manually at some point for some reason.

And remember that you can recover from anything, even removing base packages or bootloader ones with a live cd and chroot or using pacman with a different root with the --root /mnt flag to pacman.

Otherwise if your system still boots it is just a matter of following the install instructions for whatever is not working like you did the first time.

This does not work for everyone. A lot of people will try to switch, but find one tool they are used to they cannot now use and are not used to the alternatives so feel frustrated when trying to use them for real work. Then get pissed off at Linux and switch back to windows.

This advice is more for people that are thinking about Linux but have some professional or semi professional or hobby workflow on their computers that they need to be productive in. It can be very hard for them to switch os and tooling they are used to with no way to fall back to what they know when they need to.

You will find most people don't rely on these tools and they can doba quick check and decide to switch straight away. But ignoring this advice for the rest can make transitioning to Linux easier.

We need to stop pretending that switching tools that you rely on and have spent decades learning to be proficient in is a trivial task for everyone.

I would like to run Linux, but I want to game more so will stick to Windows

And this has changed a lot with what valve has done which opens Linux to a much larger market of people that can now use it for their usecases.

6 of the top 10 are verified or playable or 43% of the top 1000 games. But verified and playable is only a subset of the games that work, quite a few unsupported games do as well. If you go by medals the 7 of the top 10 are silver ranked or better (minor issues but generally playable) and 88% of the top 1000. So there are a lot of games that are playable that are still listed as unsupported on the deck.

Sadly there are so many people that take its output as gospel and don't realise it can be wrong. So is a tool that commonly gets abused by people that don't know how to use it.

The whole, "you can pay to have a higher rate limit", is the big telling part. And the big difference here, I believe I read that meta said to contact them if the limits are affecting you. Where as twitter just wants more money.

Yeah, but their competitors are not doing much better in those regards either. The whole graphics card industry is doing shitty stuff, hell most mega corps are these days.

inotifywait or watchexec can both watch a directory for changes then execute anything you want.
