I hate this so much.

I'm grateful I only know of one anti-vax looney toon at my kid's school.

Its more often that I get my hands on something in need of minor repair, perhaps a part. Newer devices arent always easy either - I've had trouble finding parts for a robo vac thats 5 yrs old, for example.

I agree. I wouldnt go so far as saying it was off the table as a possibility, but I wouldn't call it attempted rape.

I don't know what the minimums and maximums are for his actual crime, but I do hope the testimony of what happened was factored into the decision.

If you do find it let me know, I'd love to see it! I really do have about 20 hours of training in networking I give to folks, and since it's literally 20 hours of information, I like to put in fun stuff.

Like a picture of a facemask I added during COVID with "stay at 127.0.0.1, don't 255.255.255.255". Super cheesy but at least it's a mental distraction from information overload haha

Start lower down.

Just "not voting" is seen as apathy, disinterest. You're a voter who isn't going to bother to go vote, so why chase you? Instead, they can try and win over more of the active voters, which just means shifting right.

So you start lower on the totem pole. Presidents are (recent obvious mistakes from 2016 aside) going to be people who have been local, county, and state representatives. They matter a lot too, and it's easier to get candidates who are more oriented to your ideals.

Expecting change by effectively doing nothing... Well that's not an idea I can get behind. I'm not looking forward to a civil war, I'm not looking forward to project 2025, so I'm going to vote to prevent that.

I'm also voting for the most left leaning people on the ballot all the way from the bottom up. There are a few progressives who made it through the primary locally for me, and they are getting my vote - they have a good chance of success too, which is great.

What I'm not going to do is stick my head in the sand and say "But that's not good enough, I'll just be over here" - because it won't get good enough until it's clear they will get the votes to succeed, and with certain people in office, the opportunity for those folks to even make it into local offices will disappear.

Solar powered battery banks which keep a few things up and running in my office (glass sliding doors, so I get plenty of light. Also use them to charge my phone and such.

My bike, which I used to ride to the bus to get into work until I went full remote. Has a small solar kit for my lights to stay charged on long rides. It's been a bit due to some joint issues, getting back into it now, but used to do centuries every weekend. Didn't need to it charge to full, whatever trickle worked just to extend it past the 4 or so hours it would do from full, then charge on the battery banks.

Gardening and associated sensors. Working on moving those over to lorawan, right now the updates are a bit spotty even at once every 4 hours updating due to distance.

I've got a bunch of stuff that's running on lightweight chips, like esp8266's and ESP32s, to do things like Bluetooth beaconing, lights (wled), etc.

It'll be a bit, but we are going to need to move to something with a bit more space, so other plans (solar + battery for the whole home, indirect solar water heating, etc) will be on hold for a bit.

A few reasons:

  • Any conversion (including internally at the display) can result in colorspace mismatches.
  • If the sink has an unsupported mode, the source will send a default - which is usually a mismatch.

I wouldn't call it often wrong, personally. I'd say some devices are really bad with EDIDs, and are consistently problematic. It's more like -recent hardware is generally pretty good, but relying entirely on EDID won't always work, so use with care.

Some great examples of problematic devices/situations (in general):

  • Apple. Pretty much anything they make.
  • DP to HDMI - while DP supports HDMI natively, that can be one of the situations where EDID issues crop up. But much less often than....
  • DVI to HDMI or vice versa - this is probably the most problematic of general use. Happens somewhat often where a different or default colorspace gets used.

If you've got a single PC going to a display (or several), just set it once manually and you're good to go. If you're plugging and unplugging often with multiple devices (like with a dock), an EDID minder can be handy, but come with a price that generally makes setting it manually preferred anyway.

Hope this helps answer for you

Slightly more accurate may be combining both birth lottery and merciless exploitation.

Since winning that lottery let's them be the people who can mercilessly exploit people, who then have children who won that lottery, etc.
