last time I checked, blind users could not even install any mainstream distro anymore, because they all switched to wayland, and that broke screen readers in the installer.

Depends on your perspective I suppose. One good reason might be that it means more hardware is supported. A bad one might be that it increases the overall attack surface from a security point of view.

$700 for an N100 tablet? Yikes. I can't imagine they would sell enough to stay in business.

To be fair it's kinda her fault for not stating her intentions clearly. Sure you could argue there was supposed to be some mind reading or unspoken social cues going on but we all know that's not obvious enough. You were both young and inexperienced.

Is it just me or is the irony lost on the author? It says "align-content: center" but it's only vertically aligned...

curl is most definitely not developed solely by one person though, it has thousands of contributors. in fact, there is so much red tape around curl that you can't even discuss making a change to it without first writing an RFC and having it approved by a committee.

tl;dr the sms verification falls back to voice and they just used a payphone.

I guess if you count the airport full of cameras they went to to do this as "anonymous", then sure :)

Also this article from 2017 suggests not using this method:

It’s important to maintain control of this phone number. For example, you could use a disposable SMS service to register with Signal — there are many such services if you search for them — but those phone numbers can be used by anyone. Similarly, you should avoid using a public payphone’s number, or a SIM card on which you do not intend to renew service. If someone else can receive SMS messages or phone calls to this phone number, they can take your Signal account away from you.
