I was there :) And yes you're right, but also social media didn't really exist at the time as we know it now.

Trump legitimately believes his purpose is to put forth the rules that make his voters happy... so in that way, negotiation is more of a sign of weakness and would tank his numbers.

I don't like the approach of banning nonresidential IPs. I think it's discriminatory and unfairly blocks out corporate/VPN users and others we might not even be thinking about. I realize there is a bot problem but I wish there was a better solution. Maybe purely proof-of-work solutions will get more popular or something.

It’s still relatively easy to sign up for a major email provider anonymously.

In my experience, it is actually impossible. Either you get blocked (IP/ASN ban, endless captchas) or it requires SMS confirmation. I have not been able to sign up for any major email provider anonymously. I'm pretty sure that's by design.

I just want a pre-assembled rpi-ish device with a touchscreen and 99% enclosed case that anyone can buy and drop an SD card in. I know FCC testing makes this prohibitively expensive for many companies but I still want it. It would make so many products I want to sell actually feasible.

No company can afford to host

If it were decentralized in a way that is utilizing the bandwidth of its users, that is one possible solution I think

You seriously can't understand how they would have personal data on you that every other company already has?
