I have an extremist view of the legal system: I think all lawyers should be government employees and they should be assigned cases based on their area of expertise in law.

So no matter how many people sue you and no matter how much legal harassment any given entity attempts, it's the government's problem to manage all of that.

It shouldn't be possible to bankrupt someone with legal fees alone. It shouldn't be possible for a billionaire (or corporation) to always have the best legal team. It shouldn't cost millions of dollars to defend yourself from or litigate a patent.

The only way I can think of to solve these problems is to get rid of private firms.

There's vastly more malicious code now than there was back then. Every company that has an online presence is constantly under attack. Constantly. There isn't an IPv4 address that exists that isn't scanned and have an attempt at hacking performed within seconds of being connected.

Not only that but today's malicious code is much better at what it does with hundreds of amazing features and methods of branching out using different attack methods. Today's malware is so good it updates itself very carefully/as secretly as possible so that some old compromised machine that no one thinks about anymore can become the next vector of attack inside your network.

All it takes is one active vulnerability

Keep all your shit up to date, people! When was the last time you checked your router to see if it had updates? Hmm‽

I used to use "top 24h" but these days I just sort by "hot" because it actually seems to work pretty well now: I don't see the total garbage that gets down voted immediately like you get with "new" but I see pretty much everything else (which is what I like; I especially like finding interesting posts in obscure communities!).

I also regularly block foreign language communities for no other reason than I can't read them so there's no point in them taking up space in my feed. Like, I'm sure that German meme about Elon Musk is hilarious but since I don't know German it's just noise 🤷

The British suck in this situation for sure but the local racism this girl is experiencing is also bad. There should be an article about that too.

Everyone of every skin color belongs everywhere. There's no location on earth that you "belong" based on your skin color or general relative appearance. The concept absurd.

He and his Republican allies know it's not a workable plan. Which is why they'll compromise, using more efficient methods of removing these people as well as their political enemies.

Ovens are cheap.

Telemedicine is fantastic and an amazing advancement in medical treatment. It's just that people keep trying to use it for things it's not good at and probably never will be good at.

For reference, here's what telemedicine is good at:

  • Refilling prescriptions. "Has anything changed?" "Nope": You get a refill.
  • Getting new prescriptions for conditions that don't really need a new diagnosis (e.g. someone that occasionally has flare-ups of psoriasis or occasional symptoms of other things).
  • Diagnosing blatantly obvious medical problems. "Doctor, it hurts when I do this!" "Yeah, don't do that."
  • Answering simple questions like, "can I take ibuprofen if I just took a cold medicine that contains acetaminophen?"
  • Therapy (duh). Do you really need to sit directly across from the therapist for them to talk to you? For some problems, sure. Most? Probably not.

It's never going to replace a nurse or doctor completely (someone has to listen to you breathe deeply and bonk your knee). However, with advancements in medical testing it may be possible that telemedicine could diagnose and treat more conditions in the future.

Using an Nvidia Nurse™ to do something like answering questions about medications seems fine. Such things have direct, factual answers and often simple instructions. An AI nurse could even be able to check the patient's entire medical history (which could be lengthy) in milliseconds in order to determine if a particular medication or course or action might not be best for a particular patient.

There's lots of room for improvement and efficiency gains in medicine. AI could be the prescription we need.

I don't see the issue. If the Republican party dies conservatives will just flock to a new party. It doesn't happen very often in the US but such things have happened.

Republicans were too accepting of extremists in order to win short term gains. Now they're paying the price as moderates leave the party, making it even more extreme and unredeemable.

They embraced an authoritarian and just like every authoritarian he won't stand for criticism. Anyone that doesn't support the authoritarian is out.

If conservatives really want to have a political future they need to abandon the Republican party and make something new. Something that isn't extremist. The problem with making that happen is they're coming to find out that even their most fundamental beliefs--the things that make them conservatives--are what everyone else thinks of as extreme.

Bonus: If he doesn't get reelected the entire Republican party will collapse. It has expelled anyone who isn't vehemently and publicly pro-Trump. Their entire fundraising apparatus relies on Trump. Their entire base is pro-Trump at this point as well and those people basically hate every other party leader except maybe Mitch McConnell who will keel over any moment now (though that may have already happened 😁).

They haven't had much of a party platform since the 1980s and their last staple--overturning Roe v Wade--has been achieved. They have no legislative priorities other than, "elect Trump" or "pardon Trump". The only thing remaining that they stand for is dismantling government (aka "tax reduction", ending oversight of all kinds, and literally calling for the end of democracy) which isn't popular enough to survive without Trump.

Basically, with Trump they can do whatever TF they want as long as the orange criminal is fed. Without Trump they have to actually sell their BS and none of it is popular... Even among the Republican base.
