Everyone wants to access Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, etc through their TV interface and I just don't get it. The best experience is when you hook up a PC to your TV... not some TV-centric Android OS or Roku's thing.

Install Kubuntu on some old PC with a GPU that can handle 4K @60Hz and you're good to go. KDE and Firefox let you crank up the zoom so everything's easy to read and it even has HDR support (though I prefer going without it... Old person eyes).

It's such a vastly superior experience. Not only do you get the usual stuff, you can use a real keyboard to type into that search bar. You can also access all those pirate streaming sites and do normal PC stuff like play games.

Due to cost cutting, norovirus decided to only do the bare minimum.

Meh. As long as the lithium battery is as easy to replace as it was to perform other Steam Controller repairs, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Think about how many AA batteries will end up in a landfill over the lifetime of the controller VS the typical lifetime of the lithium battery. The AA batteries lose every time.

Think of it like this: You can replace the battery once every two years (if the controller lasts that long in your sweaty ass hands 🤣) or you can replace the batteries every month... 24 times, adding 48-96 batteries to the landfill in that time.

It's a lot simpler than that: Texas has a HUGE oil and natural gas industry lobby that views wind and solar as existential threats.

Oil & gas is mostly consolidated and lobbies under just a few really powerful firms. Wind and solar don't have a lobbying arm with that kind of power. It's too dispersed with too many disperate entities that don't view themselves as being on the same team.

It's just another way that money in politics corrupts everything. Even though there's more players in the solar and wind markets the oil & gas industry has a lot more money to throw around at lobbying.

After replacing writers and artists it is now replacing the entire category of, "old people". AI has reached the, "final solution" faster than I thought possible!

You say that because you don't realize the benefits:

• Better support for Linux with any new PC hardware on day 1. This includes things like USB devices, monitors, KVMs, UPS, everything.
• Better support for all commercial software in general. More software will become available and it'll be higher quality.
• Vendors will be forced to test all their stuff on Linux which means it'll all become more reliable and less glitchy.
• There will be more diversity in software and distros which means widespread attacks (aka hacking, worms, viruses, etc) will have less success and smaller impacts.
• The more Linux users there are the more Linux developers will result. It's also much easier to start learning how to code on a Linux desktop than it is in Windows.
• Better security for the entire world. Linux has a vastly superior security architecture than Windows and a vastly superior track record. The more Linux users there are, the harder it will be for malicious entities to break into their PCs which translates into a more secure world.
• It's much easier (for experienced users) to troubleshoot and fix problems in Linux than in Windows. This will lead to support teams everywhere getting frustrated whenever they have to deal with Windows users (this is already the case for many software vendors, haha). Therefore, it makes support people happy and easy going. Who doesn't want to reach a happy, helpful person for technical support instead of the usual defiant/adversarial support tech? 😁
• The worst sorts of hardware vendors won't be able to get away with their usual bullshit. For example, if there were enough Linux users HP wouldn't be offering extremely invasive 2GB printer "drivers" because their Windows customers would know enough Linux users that they'd be rightfully pissed and not depressively submissive like they are now.
• When you do have a problem it will be easier to find a solution because the likelihood that someone else already had it and posted a solution will be higher (though admittedly this factor doesn't seem to do much for Windows currently because of how obtuse and obfuscated everything is in that OS).

Well, no, actually: The AI image model will generate bad fingers constantly it's just become easier to fix via a secondary step (e.g. img2img) or you just tell it to generate 50 images and just pick the ones that don't have messed up fingers 🤷

It's a bit more urgent than that: The GOP knows they're about to lose their majority in the house so this is the only chance they'll get to do something like an impeachment. If they put it off any longer they'll run out of time while the investigation committee follows a normal (intentionally slowed by opposition) congressional schedule. They know that the whole exercise will be pointless if they can't get it done now because doing it any later will result in the investigation committee having nothing to report in time for the next election.

More importantly: They have no other ideas. They literally have no other bills or even inklings of an idea as to how to grab America's attention in anything resembling a positive or even neutral light. They lost abortion as a wedge issue now that Roe V Wade was overturned so the GOP is basically out of ideas because while they love to hate immigrants and LGBTQ people they don't have any politically useful legislation to bring up before the next election. Nothing they can pass to say, "see? We did something and the Democrats in the Senate blocked it!"
