When individuals do it, it's PIRACY!!!

When corporations do it, it's merely copyright violations.

Perhaps I'm a bit weird, but things like this bother me in ways that nobody else seems to think about:

• The $180,000 is for the entire state. That's nothing. I don't know how many schools Kansas has, but let's say it's 100. That's $1800 per school. Come on.
• Why can't the school just ask some locals to build them some phone lockers? Just put out a school bulletin asking for some volunteers. I'm certain that in the entire state of Kansas they have plenty of companies and locals who would be willing to make the simplest of tiny, metal lockers.

They talk about these complicated technical solutions when all that's necessary is a very thin, very small traditional locker. Make the kids bring their own lock! That's what we did with lockers when I was in high school in the 90s.

Those old school steel lockers were certified for fire resistance, BTW. Not because they went through some special certification process, but because they were steel and painted with school-certified paint (which every school district already has plenty of).

I'm all for it... As long as they get paid as much as their adult peers!

It's a bad idea to get kids socialized, thinking low pay is ever acceptable.

There should also be mandatory training about wage theft and how serious a crime it is for an employer to expect anyone to show up early or stay late without paying for that extra time. Have a great big award ceremony for the kids that reported employers who were caught pulling that shit! Make the employer pay them an amount equivalent to all the lost wages times three.

You want people to have more kids? Have the state give parents tax benefits (or just checks!) for each child's earnings until they're 25 or so.

I used to live down the street from a great big data center. It wasn't a big deal. It's basically just a building full of servers with extra AC units.

Inside? Loud AF (think: Jet engine. Wear hearing protection).

Outside: The hum of lots of industrial air conditioning units. Only marginally louder than a big office building.

A data center this big is going to have a lot more AC units than normal but they'll be spread all around the building. It's not like living next to an airport or busy train tracks (that's like 100x worse).

Just build your own keyboard. That's what I did (and it turned out fantastic) 🤷

Mice are much easier to deal with since there's 500 million of them to choose from. Just pick a generic, no-name brand that doesn't need drivers and you're all set.

Aside: Building a keyboard isn't rocket science. It's just a bit tedious (buy a kit). Unless you invent your own 3D printable keyboard switch and stabilizers from scratch then design an analog circuit board to work with them (also from scratch). Then it's a bit more like rocket science 🤣

To add what other folks have said... Banks have a conflict of interest in regards to employees coming back into the office: They hold the mortgages on all that office space. If the work-from-home trend doesn't let up they stand to lose trillions of dollars.

The bigger the bank the more they stand to lose. This is why banks like Goldman Sachs are extremely vocal about bringing people back into the office and grasp at every little thing that can find to back their claims that, "it's better". Even if the arguments they're making are based on 100% bullshit.

Example: You'll often hear big bank executives say things like, "teams that work near each other work better" knowing full well that their global workforce doesn't actually "sit near each other". On any given internal team employees will live all over the damned world so even if every one of them came back into the office they still wouldn't be anywhere near each other.

We know this is 100% bullshit anyway because if they actually stood behind these words they'd issue mandates that huge amounts of employees be relocated to the same physical locations and that hiring could only happen locally. They're not going to do that though because they know what they're saying is bullshit.

Religions promise anything and everything but don't actually provide anything in return for time or money invested. It's the very definition of a scam.

It's no different than supplement scams or homeopathic pills.
