Can there be things that increase the likelihood of an autistic child forming in a mother's womb? Surely! But that's the kind of thing that relies on statistics. Ya know, that thing you obviously don't trust because you never let go of the "vaccines cause autism" bullshit.

I have no doubt that after many, many decades of research—and maybe with the help of some big data/AI—we can figure out what sorts of things actually increase the likelihood of autism. It'll be probably something like: If you have these three genes and your partner has these other three genes then you should avoid eating venison while also consuming saccharine.

Maybe we'll get something better than that but if my experience with big data are any guide, the correlations are going to be wild and crazy like that... And they won't really give you "an answer", just places where a scientific investigation might be warranted.

Windows is absolute garbage for a handheld gaming device. When are these manufacturers going to learn and just ship the things with Linux? Many Chinese devices (made for running emulators) ship with some customized Linux so why aren't more mainstream manufacturers doing it? Seems like a no-brainer to make a better device and save money on licensing costs.

To be fair, I think many of us would be far too tempted to mess with people if we lived that long. How many people here would say something absolutely ridiculous like, "I drink my own piss at least once a week!" Or, "I catch and eat all the squirrels that get near by bird feeders!"

I'd love to see more adoption of... I2C!

Bazillions of motherboards and SBCs support I2C and many have the ability to use it via GPIO pins or even have connectors just for I2C devices (e.g. QWIIC). Yet there's very little in the way of things you can buy and plug in. It feels like such a waste!

There's all sorts of neat and useful things we could plug in and make use of if only there were software to use it. For example, cheap color sensors, nifty gesture sensors, time-of-flight sensors, light sensors, and more.

There's lmsensors which knows I2C and can magically understand zillions of temperature sensors and PWM things (e.g. fan control). We need something like that for all those cool devices and chips that speak I2C.

I work for a huge financial institution. Every now and again some manager gets it in their head that it might be a motivating factor to say something like, "this is costing/going to save the company millions of dollars!"

In my head I'm like, "Yeah, so what you're saying is that this fix/improvement is so trivial as to barely be worth anyone's time." If your company makes billions of dollars in pure profit every fucking quarter a few million dollars here and there over the course of a year is the equivalent of a middle class individual losing a quarter down a storm drain once... In their lifetime.
