Probably not shitty parents. There's a zillion causes for suicidal thoughts that have nothing at all to do with parenting.

If they were super religious and/or super conservative though... Those are actual causes of teen suicide. It's not the religion, it's the lack of acceptance of the child (for whatever reason, such a LGBTQ+ status).

Basically, parenting is only a factor if they're not supportive, resulting in the child feeling rejected/isolated. Other than that, you could be model parents and your child may still commit suicide.

Why? The most annoying thing that I remember about it was popular modules that hadn't been ported yet. In essence, a temporary problem; growing pains.

The Unicode/string/bytes changes were welcome (to me). But that might just be because I had actually encountered situations where I had to deal with seemingly endless complexity and ambiguity related to Unicode stuff and encodings. Python 3 made everything much more logical 🤷

It's not just actually innovative patents that are missing from the patent system (which they are). It has also become so expensive to both file and litigate a patent that only big businesses and patent trolls can afford it.

The median cost to litigate a patent is five fucking million dollars (in 2021). What this means is that if your patented solution isn't worth at least 2x that amount it is quite simply not worth patenting.

The whole system should be scrapped. It was fundamentally flawed from the start and has demonstrated over and over again that it does not scale. It's not even worth it to keep pharmaceutical patents (there's other, better, cheaper ways to come up with new drugs than $100 billion dollar commercial entities ripping us all off and spending half their budgets on marketing).

In the 90s someone proved--mathematically--that invisible watermarks (e.g. hidden in metadata or in the pixel data itself) in photos would always be removable. I searched for it but I couldn't find it but it should be obvious: Merely changing the format of an image is normally enough to destroy such invisible watermarks.

Basically, the paper I remember proved that in order for a watermark to survive a change in format/encoding it would need to be visible because the very nature of digital photo formats requires that they discard unnecessary information.

Also, I'd like to point out that it's already illegal to remove watermarks (without permission) while simultaneously being trivial (usually) for AI tools like img2img to remove watermarks.

The confusion comes from so much mass media that equates socialism with communism. They're orthogonal concepts! Saying socialism is the same as communism is like saying beer-making is exactly the same as cheese-making. Anyone who understands what beer and cheese are would be like, "I'm sorry, what‽"

The best way to think of socialism is that's it's a governance strategy that can be used wherever you want. Want everyone to pay taxes in order to fund and deliver government-run firefighting services? That's socialism. Want to do the same with the military? Socialism. Whenever the government is delivering some good or service by way of taxpayer dollars that's socialism.

Capitalism and communism are economic systems. You can have socialist government constructs under either capitalism or communism. It's just that communism doesn't really have the flexibility to provide goods or services in any other way than via the government.

Then there's countries like China that claim to be communist (and the Right loves to call them that) but really, they're more capitalist than communist. What they do have that most communists and fascist governments have is authoritarianism.

That authoritarianism is what fascists and "tankies" have in common: Fascists support an authoritarian, pseudo-capitalist government while "tankies" support an authoritarian, pseudo-communist government.
