Remember folks: Republicans are OK with this. They want their authority to punish those they feel deserve it. That includes journalists that make them look bad... By recording reality.

Jokes on us: Because of the gravity issue, alien life on such planets jumps right to stargate technology.

"They spent almost a thousand years fooling around with rockets!"

The article states that the police investigated but found nothing. The kids knew how to hide/erase the evidence.

Are we really surprised, though? Police are about as effective at digital sleuthing as they are at de-escalation.

It's good to know that incompetence is still the guiding principle of the Trump administration 👍

Everyone's joking but this is a serious problem. Imagine you're a billionaire and someone wants to assassinate you. The would-be assassin could figure out when you have a doctor's appointment (or similar) and force a train to get stuck, blocking their route.

It would leave the billionaire stuck in traffic with no escape until the train(s) started moving again. An entire cavalcade of security personnel would also be stuck (if they had one).

Aside: It could also work for robbing something like a Brinks truck but let's be honest: In this dystopian world it's more likely that this vulnerability would be used to rob a food shipment 🙄

Noem told reporters alongside Trump on July 1 as they toured a new detention center in the Florida Everglades known as ~~"Alligator Alcatraz."~~ "Alligator Auschwitz."

That's the correct name.

Here's how that's going to go:

  • He'll send in the military and they'll successfully kill some "drug dealers".
  • Mexico will be (rightly) pissed AF.
  • Mexico will retaliate by just ending all exports to the US of some essential goods (e.g. tomatoes, car parts).
  • The price of those goods will skyrocket. Business will close. White people who voted for Trump will bitch that, "he's hurting the wrong people" again (leopards eating faces).
  • Mexico will refuse to take "back" their immigrants because of Trump's bullshit.
  • Trump will "suddenly" need to jail a lot more "illegals" that he's rounded up.
  • They'll start making up stories about how all the millions of people in the concentration camps are nasty criminals and murderers... As an excuse for the poor treatment and blatant raping and murdering going on.
  • Right wing media will tow the party line. Anyone defending the "criminals" (which will include families with children) is a traitor to the country.

History will repeat itself.

Unless the president does something monumentally stupid (like telling people not to wear masks during a pandemic) the president has little impact on the economy (or oil prices). Why do people keep talking about the president like he's got a great big series of valves that controls the economy? It's ridiculous!

Any decision the president makes that will impact the economy is most likely to have an impact ten years later. Sometimes an impact can be felt sooner than that but it's usually not a good thing for the economy... Like starting a war or closing the borders.

This achievement belongs to the tail end of GENX... The folks that brought us grunge.

Men shouldn't be allowed near children that aren't their own. It's rarely stated but regularly assumed.

Docker containers aren't running in a virtual machine. They're running what amounts to a fancy chroot jail... It's just an isolated environment that takes advantage of several kernel security features to make software running inside the environment think everything is normal despite being locked down.

This is a very important distinction because it means that docker containers are very light weight compared to a VM. They use but a fraction of the resources a VM would and can be brought up and down in milliseconds since there's no hardware to emulate.

This article is misleading: The cards are already "AI accelerators" they just come in monstrous sizes and coolers that aren't suitable for cramming more than one into a computer (server) case.

What the Chinese chop shops are doing is removing the components and resoldering them on to smaller PCBs and putting on smaller (but more powerful and jet-engine loud) exhaust-style coolers.

Basically it's just old fashioned harvesting and re-using of PCB components. A common thing during the shortages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
