reddit refugee here, had been a 12+ year user that started on f7u12 and rage comics, growing up as reddit did… and i, like almost everyone else here, do not recognize it for what it used to be.

anyway! i’m not exactly midwest, as i’m from tennessee, but i am a huge fan of midwest emo (am football, mom jeans, pinegrove, desaparecidos) and i commiserate with the best of them.

i’m into photography, woodworking, building guitars, architecture, design, bicycling, and basketball. so far lemmy has been a huge breath of fresh air!

i have changed oil in vehicles probably 30 times at this point. last year for some dumbass reason i decided to start using a torque wrench to tighten.

looking at the specs for my foreign, i did not look at the correct column on the page for ft/lbs or Nm… did not double check… and ended up fucking stripping the bolt threads on the oil pan!!!!!!!!

had a hell of a time removing the bolt, but there were enough good threads that i could drill out what i cross threaded and still attach the bolt… i did not have to have an oil pan replacement… and no drips or leaks… i count myself extremely, extremely stupid and lucky.

yo that’s dope, carrying the board back and forth to work, haha. i can really bang on the keyboard too so i’ll look at the drop entry!

great response! i think i may continue with cleaning up those keyboards and see what i’m working with. i’ve done some electronics soldering in my time (and built/set up guitar electronics quite a few times) so i’m sure it wouldn’t be too much of a step up if i had to do that.

on another note, any recommendations on what to clean the plastic with? they are quite yellow on the cases and space bar funny enough, and i’d love to see them back to their glory!

i have a few apple extended keyboard ii that are in good working shape. i have considered purchasing an adapter to use them with usb, because i can remember absolutely loving to use these keyboards.

just happened upon the community, and figured i’d ask. is it more worth it to get something to adapt one of these keyboards?

for reference, at home i have more than enough space on my desk for a keyboard. at work, i wouldn’t mind finding a nice mechanical keyboard, as i type often and a bad keyboard infuriates me to no end, haha.
