Cuz it makes no sense. You wouldn’t complain that the iPhone doesn’t work as a skateboard because they don’t want you using it as a skateboard. It doesn’t work as a skateboard because it’s not a skateboard. All companies design products to be used the way the company wants you to use them. If op is talking about it being super locked down, that’s also incorrect. I can disable plenty of the security features on Mac and it continues to work just fine, compared to windows where if you disable UAC you literally cannot use your computer the same way and it will bug you constantly. It’s just a trope that isn’t really true at all.

The bible says a lot of things that Christian churches do not teach. Quoting anything in the old testament you might as well just say that Christianity teaches that you shouldn't have long hair or ear piercings, which is clearly not true. That verse also does not say what you think it does. It says that you should watch out for people who say you "must" be circumcised to be saved. I've never heard anyone say that anywhere. That doesn't mean it's not encouraged in the church. That doesn't mean it's not taught. That doesn't mean it's not done as part of baptism (as it has been at literally every christian church I've seen). But yeah, of course no one is going around saying you won't be saved unless you do so. That doesn't make it "NOT a Christian thing".

that is most definitely incorrect. I don't know where you heard that, but it's just absolutely wrong.

All that means is that they think certain ports have certain purposes. I don’t think that’s the win you think it is. Why not just have everything be an rj45 port then? Clearly lightning has an advantage in phone ports, as numerous others have listed.

It was almost 4 years before the first usb c phone was released and that was only in China. No clue where you’re getting 2 years from. And even then Apple helped design the USB C standard.

Makes sense. Deno was created by the same person that created node. They’re both going to be terrible, especially when they ignore everything ever discovered in software engineering about writing good code, good frameworks, good languages, etc.

I don’t speak German so I couldn’t understand the video, but it looks like it was just a powder? Did they have to activate it?

They have been used on millions of websites already. It’s pretty clear that it works. It doesn’t need to be used on lemmy to prove it works. And my application is currently in review so no I haven’t used it. But that really doesn’t matter. Especially if you’re comparing it to a tool written by one person that has been out for a few days.

I don’t know why you say that like it’s not already successful.

[-] snowe@programming.dev 0 points 3 years ago

That really isn’t how stuff works. I don’t understand how you’re getting upvoted at all. Do you have a financial advisor? Do you actually have investments and accounts for retirement? Investing two million and trying to live off the dividends would give you pretty much nothing each year, from a cost of living perspective.

USB C is a mess, sure. But if your solution to that is to try and justify sticking with an old, proprietary standard that supports only a fraction of the features of the competitor, then I guess it’s your money to burn.

I most definitely am not doing that. Lightning was good for the time, and the benefits of USB C now are overwhelming (compared to a few years ago). What I am talking about is the blatant whitewashing of the past. USB C didn't exist, and the lightning cable was amazing for what it replaced. Absolutely astounding honestly. And the connector still is. But time moves on. But lots of people love to hate on Apple and just completely ignore history.

there are options besides windows and linux. I only use windows for gaming, mac for everything else besides server infra. but yeah I guess if you're looking at linux you're going to be looking at different browsers than the majority of people. as to why you would want to move away from chrome and not windows, there's plenty of reasons. It seems pointless to argue that here though, as you seem to think it's an all or nothing.
