Important detail that is missing in the article and that some are getting wrong in the comments: This is not about forcing messengers to add backdoors for mass surveillance or weakening the messenger/its encryption in general (although that indeed is the wet dream of some governments/agencies). It's about infecting the phone/device of a suspect with spyware (either by hacking remotely or with physical access, although in secret of course) and sniffing their communication before it's encrypted/leaves the devices (or after decryption for incoming messages). Every case must be individually approved by several judges so cops can't just use this willy-nilly, the crime they're investigating must be quite serious (punishable by at least 10 years in prison) and it's limited to 30 cases per year.

I've spend a lot on fancy high tech trekking socks for outdoor stuff (like 20€ a pair) before I discovered German army socks that are just as good but sold in bulk for like 2-3€ a pair, very comfortable and stretchy so they fit multiple sizes. They're probably not to your taste but I just checked the company selling them and they also have these more civil looking and advertised as extra wide comfort socks for like 5€ a pair, might be worth a try.

In Firefox (other browsers probably as well) you can add custom keywords for searches. For example visit Wikipedia, right click the search field and pick "add keyword" from the menu. As keyword enter "!wiki" or whatever you want and from now on you can just type "!wiki whatever" in the URL bar, no need to take the detour to duckduckgo or some other search engine.

I hardly believe restaurants prepare extra food in advance just to sell it a huge discount with very little or no profit. Actually whenever I went to a restaurant that participated it wasn't leftover stuff but they cooked the meal fresh just for me. I guess they're using the app as a way to advertise and draw more people in with a big discount and hope they come back again to eat there at the full price.

Ok but even if that was the case and they produce too much because they can sell the rest at a discount, it's not really "too much" if everything gets sold and eaten. Why would they produce less than there's demand for? I don't really see a problem as long as the food doesn't end up in a trash can.

But if someone buys and eats the food then it's not wasted, is it?
