This person will never know how stupid and self-righteous they sound. It's always the religious nuts that think everyone must shut up and listen to their vapid drivel.

I'll consider myself lucky that the worst I've had to deal with was a 8K LOC C file that implemented image processing for a cancer detection algorithm. Nothing terribly tricky but just poorly organized. Almost no documentation at all. The only test was running this code against a data set of patient images and eyeballing the output. No version control other than cloning the project onto their NAS and naming it "v2" etc.

Research code can be really scary.

I suspect every language does this to some extent. Some good examples from Japanese:

靴 = shoes 下 = under 靴下 = socks

手 = hand 紙 = paper 手紙 = letter

歯 = teeth 車 = wheel 歯車 = cog / gear

火 = fire 山 = mountain 火山 = volcano

Sadly (?) the Japanese compounds are often only compounds of the symbols, not the spoken words.

It's a repost, but a good one.

It's crazy that I've been on Lemmy for like 2 years and I think I've encountered direct toxic behavior only a handful of times. Obviously I'm aware of the trolls and problematic instances, but those can easily be blocked.

Am I the asshole?

NixOS. My entire config is source-controlled and I can easily roll back to a previous boot image if something breaks like cough Nvidia drivers. I also use it for my home router and all self-hosted services.

They call it: funflation.

No. You made that up and now you're calling it that. I hate these basic-ass brainwashing media outlets so much.

Is Good Morning America just ads disguised as news?

Seattle has refused to salt the roads for precisely this reason.

Scientists have been saying these same things my entire life. While they are absolutely correct, the necessary change does not seem to be a priority for leaders. At best it gets lip service and underwhelming commitments. At worst conservatives completely deny the problem. We have social issues blocking our scientific solutions.

I don't think our existing leadership is capable of being proactive, we are always slow and reactive. We need more radical social change, which I only see happening once a certain generation dies and another takes their place.

Yea it is ultimately on the admins, but Lemmy just needs to not make it hard to comply with GDPR. So it's up to admins to raise issues when Lemmy is seen as an obstacle to compliance, and it's up to devs to listen and implement compliance features.
