I think you are definitely getting into overkill territory here with a server rack dedicated to Plex and a GPU. Most igpus on Intel chips can transcode 10+ 1080p streams and 2ish 4k streams. Unless you have 100 users seems over kill to me.

Edit. I'm on Unraid with about 30 users, and I only give Plex and all my other containers 6 cores from an i7 10700k.

I would say the benefit of OpenSUSE is that everything is preconfigured to work right out of the box, including btrfs snapshotting with snapper. Once you boot it's time to download apps, and go. Very windows like for those who just want the system to work. Updates are one click.

Oh my god, I remember the Maher bit, you could tell Bill was getting pissed off about this guy coming on and spewing conspiracy theories. Actively rooting against Brand ever since! I believe all these allegations are probably true, as Brand seems to have a very tenuous relationship with reality.

Choosing death by starvation is not a choice. Work or die, slave.

I really don't understand lemm.ee policy here. Hexbear is clearly a SPAM instance, but because they spam under the guise of leftist principles we're just gonna let it slide. If explodingheads was this active and this toxic they would be de-federated 100%. Hexbear users brigade and spam every thread including this one. Being actively hostile, launching bad faith arguments. Don't engage with these turds, just block and move on. We NEED instance blocking or lemmy is fucking toast.

While I think this should pass, don't hold your breath. Mayor Frey will probably veto it. He's a very moderate, business friendly Democrat and our governor also vetoed a similar bill from the state legislature earlier this year. Right or wrong, they are concerned that any disruption of Uber/Lyft services would be extremely detrimental to people who depend on them. Public transportation in MN is really bad and this is one of the major ways people get around.

At 21 hours old, this lemm.ee meta post has 1123 comments and 3/4ths of the comments are from hexbear users. They brigade every thread with their non sense and it is impacting lemmy in a very negative way. We wouldn't be having this discussion if it wasn't. I don't really like defederation if it was a tool to silence ideology but what hexbear users do is not really debate ideology and more aggressive in your face bad faith argument trolling. This is a spam instance that should be treated as such. Block it.

Authoritarianism (or vertical/hierarchical power structure) is THE defining characteristic of the right. “Auth-left” is Doublethink; an oxymoron meant to distract from the fact that wealth and power are one and the same.

This is so incredibly naive. Stalin? Mao? Evil authoritarianism comes in all flavors left and right. If you truly believe leftists aren't capable of evil you need to study more history.

Fucking Lemmy.world is hot garbage. They're down every day and are constantly defederating with any instance that doesn't fit their narrow, sanitized world views. It's also one of the most recommended Lemmy's with more new users going there than anywhere else. I think it incredibly damaging in the long run to have 50% of active users on this platform to be centralized on one domain. Especially if this domain makes as many boneheaded decisions as lemmy.world

These guides have been really useful for me. I link them my users to help them set original quality and avoid transcoding. Each image is for a different App UI so it makes it really easy even for the dumbest of family members! I did not make these I found them on reddit a while back and just saved the link.
