I still think it is wild that if you told someone 10 years ago that MacOS market share would skyrocket and that Apple started to make fairly conpetitively priced computers with their own chips to where it is a legit alternative to a typical laptop shopper, you would have been called crazy.

I'm sure many hate Apple in Lemmy side, I myself use SailfishOS and Linux, but you have to agree that to your normal person, Apple is a very conpetitive option for laptops nowadays which was previously not the case.

That is also why I am pessimisic about prices ever coming down to previous level. Best case it halves and people will cheer, and it will still cost way more than before.

the prices would already have stabilized or come down if we were at the choke point, as long as inventory is moving it will stay like this. Production is shifted to data center memory and even if all the AI and data center investment stops tomorrow it will take months to a year to shift any production back to consumer RAM.

At work (big tech, ~100k employees) we had a panel about IP and AI. The guy presenting unironically said something along the lines of "it is of course a concern, but frankly it is something we will just ignore for now and see how the technology develops"

I took that as "we do not give a fuck if it creates AGI, and if it crashes and burns it will be the bankrupcy lawyer's problem.

so, yea, most people do not care
